Why Isn't AIPAC Registered As A Foreign Lobby?

We The People were given ample warning...but our representatives did not listen...and now we are on the precipice of a third world war and the possible collapse of the United States as we know it.

You can thank those scumbags who allowed what is obviously a foreign power grab to become an American lobbying organization - though you would be hard-pressed to see any benefit whatsoever to American interests in the document transcribed below:
AMERICAN ZIONIST COUNCIL

COMMITTEE ON INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Committee carries on a major part of its work through highly specialized subcommittees composed of professionals in specific areas of activity who volunteer their services to the American Zionist Council. It is the subcommittee chairmen who have been instrumental, for the most part, in mobilizing these experts to serve with them to help interpret Israel to the general American public. In addition, the AZC staff carries on a number of activities on its own without benefit of these volunteers.

The Committee plans to operate in the following areas during the 1962-63 budgetary year.

1. Magazines

Cultivation of editors.
Stimulation and placement of suitable articles in the major consumer magazines
Reprinting and distribution of favorable materials which appear in the above publications.
Stimulation of articles in trade and specialized journals.
Liaison with writers resident in Israel via a literary agent in New York for ideas and placement.

2. TV, Radio, Films

The Department arranges for talks and interviews on Radio and TV, and servicing of film requests.
It also cultivates leading personalities in these media.
It encourages networks and stations to create programs revolving around Israel.

3. Christian Religious Groups

Cultivation of key religious leaders and groups.
Setting up Seminars on Israel for Christian clergy.
Stimulating of positive articles in the Protestant and Catholic press.
Counteraction of hostile material in the press.
Reprints and distribution of favorable materials from the church press
Stimulation of suitable articles in the journals of the Jewish religious groups.

4. Academic Circles

Support of the American Association for Middle East Studies.
Support of the Inter-University Committees on Israel.
Cultivation of leaders in the academic community.
Stimulation of "Israel Day" on college campuses.
Cooperation with colleges and universities in setting up of Seminars on the Middle East.
Monitoring and counteraction of material in the campus press.
Stimulating of articles in academic journals.
Guidance to student Zionists and other Jewish students on Arab-Israel issues.
Counteraction of hostile faculty and Arab students.
Preparation of material for elementary and high school faculty.

5. Daily Press

Cultivation of editors.
Stimulation of positive material via syndicated writers, columnists, etc.
Counteraction of hostile material.
Reprinting and distribution of favorable materials.

6. Books

Assistance to publishers in the promotion of worthwhile books.
Promotion of reviews of favorable books.
Distribution of books to public and college libraries.

7. Speakers

The Speakers Bureau will continue to utilize Israelis, American Christians and American Jews on academics, religious, civic and other platforms around the country for positive presentations on Israel.

8. Liaisons with organizations, both on the national and local levels, especially those with an international relations program.
Special liaisons with Negro community.

9. Projects and Issues

Issuance of special material and guidance on controversial issues such as Arab refugees, Syrian-Israel situation, etc.
Programming for special occasions such as Yon Haatznaut, etc.

10. Visitors to Israel

Subsidization to individual public opinion molders to help provide them with an experience in Israel.
Inter-University Committee Study Tour to Israel..
Organize other tours in which public opinion molders will participate.
Provide suitable arrangements in Israel for handling of American visitors.

11. Counteracting the Opposition

The monitoring and counteraction of all activities carried out here by the Arabs, American Friends of the Middle East, and the American Council for Judaism.

12. Miscellaneous

Answering requests for information and providing suitable literature for the many thousands of requests annually received.

The LOBBY's 1962 Blueprint for Taking over America - Goon Squad

Greg Bacon put out a great posting...this is in answer to those who would call my compatriots and myself some silly names like "anti-Semites" or the like.

I don't believe that it's "anti-Semitic" to point out scumbaggery when I see it - and this posting is the height of scumbaggery. - The Lobby's 1962 Blueprint To Taking Over America.

Why I Miss George W. Bush - Christopher Ketcham

Christopher Ketcham posted this piece at Atlantic Free Press - Why I miss George W. Bush - give it a read, why don't you...and here's a piece by Travis Kelly - 9/11 Metastasizing: the Left’s Co-Dependency.

I want to mention the fantastic news I heard today regarding the fate of scumbag child rapist Joseph McGowan - he will not be eligible for parole for at least 18 years, and possibly 30.

There shouldn't be a chance in hell that this piece of sub-human garbage could ever again menace a child. I'm sure that to Rosemarie D’Alessandro, this comes as a relief, but of course, it pales to the realization that something like this simply should not occur in today's world. Amazingly, after 36 years, Rosemarie D’Alessandro can relax, and never have to hear that name being mentioned in the media ever again, with the possible exception of a notice of his demise.

Regarding the attack upon the Holocaust museum...all I can say is PSY-OP.

Global sentiment, as it was right before the events of September 11th, 2001, is against Israel; no mean feat, considering their reprehensible actions taken in Gaza, Lebanon and the United States. Newly-elected U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama, before he was elected, gave an awfully fawn-laded speech before AIPAC, swearing his fealty. Now that he has addressed the other denizens of the Middle East, and voiced that his administration will attempt to deal with them in better faith, he has now betrayed Israel?

This is utter insanity.

Do you know that Israel plans to enact sanctions against the United States?

I guess all of that stolen land has gone to their heads.

Harman, AIPAC, NSA: What did I Know, and When Did I Know It?

Harman, AIPAC, NSA: What did I Know, and When Did I Know It?

By Jeff Stein, CQ Politics, April 21, 2009

21 Apr 2009 // The tremendous interest [1] in my story [2] yesterday about a 2005 NSA wiretap picking up California Democratic Rep. Jane Harman [3] conversing with a suspected Israeli agent took me by surprise, frankly.

It's always gratifying to find so many people [4] paying attention to things like this when Carrie Prejean [5] is only a click away.

The first thing I want to dispel, though, is the apparently widespread notion that the timing of my story Monday was somehow related to: (1) the upcoming trial of former AIPAC [6] lobbyists Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman; (2) the raging debate over the NSA's warrantless wiretaps, (3) the Justice Department/CIA's torture memos; (4) anything else.

More on that later.

But first, The New York Times [7] weighed in Monday night, confirming my story in all important aspects and moving it forward a notch.

Here's the lede [8] from Neil A. Lewis and Mark Mazzetti:

"One of the leading House Democrats on intelligence matters was overheard on telephone calls intercepted by the National Security Agency agreeing to seek lenient treatment from the Bush administration for two pro-Israel lobbyists who were under investigation for espionage, current and former government officials say."

Note: That's their own sources they're referring to, I guess, not mine, since there's no reference to my own story -- yet.

And they go on, filling in the back story:

"The lawmaker, Representative Jane Harman of California, became the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee after the 2002 election and had ambitions to be its chairwoman when the party gained control of the House in 2006."

Here, it's important to remember that Harman absolutely denied every aspect of my story, calling it a "recycled canard" dredged up by people "who should be ashamed of themselves."

But then Lewis and Mazzetti dug around and found the same thing I did, tapes and all:

"One official who has seen transcripts of several wiretapped calls said she appeared to agree to intercede in exchange for help in persuading party leaders to give her the powerful post," they wrote.

"One of the very few members of Congress with broad access to the most sensitive intelligence information, including aspects of the Bush administration's wiretapping that were disclosed in December 2005, Ms. Harman was inadvertently swept up by N.S.A. eavesdroppers who were listening in on conversations during an investigation, three current or former senior officials said."

Here again, they add: "It is not clear exactly when the wiretaps occurred; they were first reported by Congressional Quarterly [9] on its Web site [10]."

True enough, but it muddies the issue of whether The Times found its own sources, or if it's alluding here to mine. But Lewis and Mazzetti seem to be saying they independently confirmed my reporting.

They reinforce that idea with this:

"The official with access to the transcripts said someone seeking help for the employees of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a prominent pro-Israel lobbying group, was recorded asking Ms. Harman, a longtime supporter of its efforts, to intervene with the Justice Department. She responded, the official recounted, by saying she would have more influence with a White House official she did not identify."

Now, the "White House official" was new to me. I'd reported that Harman said she would try to persuade lesser Justice Department officials to reduce the charges against Rosen and Weissman, scheduled for trial in June.

Read the rest of The Times story here. [11]

Now comes Foreign Policy's [12] daunting and extremely well-sourced Laura Rozen, who adds important confirmation [13] to a critical background detail in my story.

"A former intelligence official familiar with the matter told Foreign Policy on condition of anonymity Monday that Goss had been asked due to the unavailability of FBI director Robert Mueller to certify a FISA warrant that was seemingly triggered by a captured communication between Harman and someone who was already being surveilled by the U.S. government (presumably, the suspected 'Israeli agent'). Furthermore, the former intelligence official said, longstanding protocol involving the separation of powers required that when intelligence exists that includes a member of Congress, that the heads of the body in which that member sits, in this case, the top Republican and Democratic in the House of Representatives, then House speaker Denny Hastert (R-IL) and minority leader Nancy Pelosi, (D-CA) be informed."

"It's hard, at this point, to know what to make of the allegations," The National Interest's [14] Jacob Heilbrunn writes, understandably, at Huffington Post [15].

"That Harman, who did not become intelligence committee chair, would risk her reputation and career seems implausible. But wackier things have happened in Washington."

Yes indeed, it's been that way since Bill Clinton [16] took a bite of Monica Lewinsky's [17] pizza a dozen years ago.

Wired's Kim Zetter [18] really put her finger on what fascinated me about this story from the beginning.

"Those who have long felt there was a suspicious back story behind Congress's support of the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping may feel their suspicions are closer to being confirmed this week."

But of the all aggregations of the exploding coverage, the best may belong to Glenn Greenwald [19], the gifted legal analyst over at Salon.com [20], in my opinion. He and I have had our differences on some national security/civil liberties issues, but to me he's always articulate, thorough and thought-provoking -- one of the best on the Web at dissecting the Bush Justice Department's tortured memos on interrogation limits (or lack thereof), in my opinion.

In Monday's blog Greenwald offered [21] a useful reminder.

"Back in October, 2006, [Time's Tim Burger] reported [22] that the DOJ and FBI were investigating whether Harman and AIPAC 'violated the law in a scheme to get Harman reappointed as the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee' and 'the probe also involves whether, in exchange for the help from AIPAC, Harman agreed to help try to persuade the Administration to go lighter on the AIPAC officials caught up in the ongoing investigation.' So that part has been known since 2006."

He then offers this necessary context, which I only touched on:

"[A]s I've noted many times, Jane Harman, in the wake of the NSA scandal, became probably the most crucial defender of the Bush warrantless eavesdropping program, using her status as 'the ranking Democratic on the House intelligence committee' to repeatedly praise the NSA program as 'essential to U.S. national security' and 'both necessary and legal.' She even went on Meet the Press to defend the program along with GOP Sen. Pat Roberts and Rep. Pete Hoekstra, and she even strongly suggested that the whistleblowers who exposed the lawbreaking and perhaps even the New York Times (but not Bush officials) should be criminally investigated, saying she 'deplored the leak,' that 'it is tragic that a lot of our capability is now across the pages of the newspapers,' and that the whistleblowers were 'despicable.' And Eric Lichtblau himself described how Harman, in 2004, attempted very aggressively to convince him not to write about the NSA program."

In relation to that, The Plum Line's [23] Greg Sargent [24] claimed to find something for one nanosecond that "deals the story a blow."

Sargent called Times editor Bill Keller to ask whether, as I reported, Jane Harman had tried to kill the warrantless wiretapping story.

Good idea, actually.

"Ms. Harman," Keller told [25] Sargent through a spokeswoman, "did not influence my decision. I don't recall that she even spoke to me."

I direct Sargent to this passage [26] in the Times' own story [27] today:

"Bill Keller, the executive editor of The Times, said in a statement Monday that Ms. Harman called Philip Taubman, then the Washington bureau chief of The Times, in October or November of 2004. Mr. Keller said she spoke to Mr. Taubman -- apparently at the request of Gen. Michael V. Hayden, then the director of the National Security Agency -- and urged that The Times not publish the article. "She did not speak to me," Mr. Keller said, 'and I don't remember her being a significant factor in my decision.'

But then Lewis and Mazzetti add:

"Shortly before the article was published more than a year later, in December 2005, Mr. Taubman met with a group of Congressional leaders familiar with the eavesdropping program, including Ms. Harman. They all argued that The Times should not publish."

Meanwhile, there seemed to be as much interest in the timing of my story as the facts in it.

Some journalists poked through the entrails and came away certain that my story "surfaced" now to effect the upcoming Rosen-Weissman trial or, for Ron Kampeas at Capital J [28], Harman's dissent on waterboarding.

No-it-wasn't.

I was asked about it a couple of times during an online chat [29] Monday at CQ Politics [30].

Claire from Washington DC: Why are your sources coming forward now? There must be some reason why they have waited almost three years.

Me:

Thanks. I've seen a lot of speculation about that online. The fact is, there is no "timing" to any "leak." No sources "came forward," so to speak. I learned about this quite a while ago and was just recently able to turn my full attention to it. Total coincidence.

Sandy from Brooklyn: Why is all this stuff coming out now?

Me: No special reason. The story was not "planted" on me to influence any other events -- in particular the looming AIPAC trial or things related to the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program. I've known about it for some time but just not been able to pull it together until now for various reasons.

I also discussed this, and other background on my story, on Glenn Greenwald's Podcast [31].

Where does it go from here?

"I think it's safe to say that investigations will be underway shortly," blogger Ataru [32] ventured at the Blog for Democracy [33].

If he means a Justice Department or congressional investigation, I doubt it.

People: Jane Harman is a Democrat. Last time I checked, the White House and Congress were in the hands of the Democrats.

And tell me this: How will the Republicans reopen this can of worms when one of their own wriggling at the bottom is Alberto Gonzales?

They can't.

My CQ colleague David Corn [34] tried to tease something out of White House spokesman Robert Gibbs at Monday's daily feeding.

But alas, Corn wrote [35]:

"Gibbs did not choose me for a query today. Even so, he might have only reiterated some version of the time-to-look-ahead-not-behind mantra the White House has been making much use of lately. Here is yet one more reason--beyond the torture memos and the firings of the US attorneys--for the internal investigators of the Justice Department to focus their attention on the fellow who ran the department for George W. Bush."

But, this being Washington, fear not: Someone will investigate something somehow.

As Corn noted [36]:

"One DC watchdog is calling for an investigation. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington [37] on Monday afternoon requested a congressional ethics inquiry. CREW's [38] executive director, Melanie Sloan, told Mother Jones [39], 'She was willing to use a criminal investigation as a tool just to get a chairmanship. Obviously there's political gamesmanship on Capitol Hill, but it has to end before you get to the Grand Jury store. That's really beyond the pale.'"

CREW announced [40] it had "faxed a request to the Justice Department asking for an investigation of what happened with Gonzales and the initial Harman investigation."

Declassified Old Documents Shed New Light on AIPAC Espionage Prosecution - IRmep

Declassified Old Documents Shed New Light on AIPAC Espionage Prosecution - IRmep

Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy

WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 -- More than one thousand documents released under Freedom of Information Act filings reveal details of a secret battle that raged between founders of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and top US law enforcement officials. The new book "America's Defense Line: The Justice Department's Battle to Register the Israel Lobby as Agents of a Foreign Government" reproduces and analyzes these files and their troubling implications for rule of law in the United States. "America's Defense Line" also reveals stunning details of a preferential deal engineered within the highest levels of the US Department of Justice over the course of three years and implemented in 1965 -- but kept secret from the American public until today. Old documents and new analysis from the Center for Policy and Law Enforcement raise many questions about the upcoming October 2008 AIPAC espionage trial.

In 2005, Colonel Lawrence Franklin was indicted alongside two executives of AIPAC for allegedly violating the 1917 Espionage Act. Franklin later pled guilty to passing AIPAC a classified presidential directive and other secrets concerning America's Iran policy. Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman of AIPAC allegedly forwarded the highly sensitive information to Israeli government officials and select members of Washington's media establishment. This covert leaking appears to be one of many AIPAC tactics designed to encourage tougher U.S. policies toward Iran, from financial boycotts to naval blockades and possibly even military strikes.

On October 28, 2008, government prosecutors are scheduled to appeal the ruling judge's order that they must prove the alleged AIPAC leaks of national defense information actually harmed the United States. The 1917 Espionage Act actually requires a much lower standard of proof: "the injury of the United States or to the advantage of a foreign country."

According to Grant F. Smith, the declassified documents bolster the prosecution's position that the Espionage Act should be tightly interpreted as it was written. "In the early 1960s, the Attorney General found that the Israel lobby was acting as an unregistered foreign agent for Israel and ordered it to register. Nevertheless, after a similar three-year period of delays and appeals, AIPAC's predecessor was allowed to file a secret Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) statement, our nation's first exception to that very important public disclosure law. Forcing today's prosecutors to operate under a higher standard of evidence smacks of institutionalized preferential treatment for a lobby that has serially engaged in activities harmful to the United States."

Federal, state and local law enforcement officials may request a complimentary hard copy of "America's Defense Line" by sending their agency's mailing address to info@IRmep.org from a government email domain. Complimentary books will be sent only while supplies last.

Members of the public can purchase the hardcover edition of "America's Defense Line" for $29.95 at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and other fine bookstores. The 340-page report's ISBN number is 0-9764437-2-4.

AIPAC, and other such organizations, are being revealed as a fifth column within our great nation. It's time we label these organizations for what they are: Agents of a Foreign Government.

They do NOT have the best interests of the United States at heart...instead, they are leading our great nation down the path of ruin.

One of the over 120 Israeli "art students" who cased federal office buildings and military bases during a year and a half before the 9/11 attacks has revealed details of her "assignment" in the United States to a WMR source.

The former art student, who is now assigned to work with a non-governmental organization (NGO) in South Africa on research on violent crime against South African whites by blacks, said she was first assigned to work at an Israeli-owned shopping mall kiosk in Orange County, California, in early 2001 to "brush up on her American English language skills."

From California the young Israeli woman was transferred to Chicago and then to Houston, where she worked in an office close to the sprawling port facility. Her "cover" was as an accountant for an Israeli intelligence front company involved in the shipping business. It should be noted that former CIA Southeast Region Station Chief Roland V. Carnaby, shot to death on April 29 by two Houston police officers, was known to have been concerned about the lack of security at the port of Houston, was monitoring the activities of Israeli intelligence in the greater Houston area, and was known to have clashed with the Department of Homeland Security over its lack of interest in providing security for the Port of Houston

Okay...see any interesting correlations here?

The Three Stooges: Obama, McCain and Clinton on Israel

Three possible choices for US President in lockstep on AIPAC driven Israel does no wrong policy

BBSNews 2008-05-01 -- By Stuart Littlewood. I don't know about you, but Hillary Rodham Clinton scares the pants off me.

"I want the Iranians to know that if I am president, we will attack Iran," she ranted when asked what she'd do if Iran launched a nuclear attack on Israel. Not only that, she'll "totally obliterate them"... 70 million people.

Jeepers... what kind of lunatic would drag us all into World War 3 to defend a lawless, racist regime like Israel?

I see the Council on Foreign Relations helps keep tabs on the stooge-for-Israel inclinations of each presidential candidate, so how's Hillary doing? "Clinton co-sponsored the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006," says the CFR. "She also sponsored a Senate resolution in 2007 calling for the immediate and unconditional release of soldiers of Israel held captive by Hamas and Hezbollah."

Was she concerned about the 9,000 Palestinians, including women and children, abducted from their homes and held in Israeli jails? Apparently not.

Since taking office in 2000, Clinton has regularly supported military and financial aid packages to Israel. In a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) she spouted the now-compulsory mantra: Hamas should not be recognised "until it renounces violence and terror and recognises Israel's right to exist."

She supports Israel's 'security wall' and its declared purpose of preventing terrorist attacks. Does she support the wall's undeclared purpose - which has nothing to do with security - and the way it bites deep into Palestinian territory?

Barack Obama has said the United States must isolate Hamas. He also co-sponsored the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006 and called on the Palestinian leadership to "recognise Israel, to renounce violence, and to get serious about negotiating peace and security for the region". OK, why don't America and Israel get serious about implementing the dozens of UN resolutions on the subject? He doesn't say.

He called Carter's meeting with Hamas leaders "a bad idea", so what's his pledge to talk with US adversaries without preconditions worth? If elected, Obama will insist on fully funding military assistance to Israel. Does this mean paying them even more billions of US tax dollars so that they can fire even more high-tech munitions at Gaza, vaporize more women and kids and knock out more infrastructure that Britain and the EU paid for?

John Sidney McCain the Third says he's "proudly pro-Israel" and argues that there can be no peace process "until the Palestinians recognise Israel, forswear forever the use of violence, recognise their previous agreements..." Has he asked Israel to do the same? No.

He criticises Carter's meeting with Hamas, calling it "a grave and dangerous mistake for an American leader". And he wants the United States to continue providing Israel with whatever military equipment and technology it needs. If elected McCain would "work to further isolate the enemies of Israel". Surely his time would be better spent worrying about why half the world hates the US.

McCain even thinks Israel's military action in Lebanon in 2006 was justified. He's willing to use military force against Iran if it acquires a nuclear weapon and poses a "real threat" to Israel. Well, we know from past experience what "real threats" boil down to. And guess what: he too co-sponsored the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006.

What is this Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act they all so desperately wanted? It doesn't make nice reading. The idea is to heap misery on any Palestinian government in which Hamas has a hand, ignoring the fact that the resistance movement is democratically elected and shows no sign of running away. The Act demands everything from the Palestinians and nothing from Israel, which can do no wrong in Washington's eyes but, as everyone outside America knows, is the biggest terror organisation and law-breaker in the region.

Palestinians are perfectly entitled to put up armed resistance against illegal military occupation. Nevertheless the US requires them to end their struggle, get on their knees and publicly kiss their tormentors' ass. They must re-commit to the Road Map and the two-state solution even though the 'irreversible facts on the ground' Israel is hurrying to establish and the impoverished, fragmented leftovers of land the Palestinians will be left with (less than 20% of what was originally theirs) are not a recipe for peace.

The plan is plainly to support Israel's lust for prime land and strategic resources and end all hope of Palestinian viability and self-determination.

So the three main presidential candidates are singing off the same hymn-sheet and running neck-and-neck for the job of Stooge-in-Chief. Whichever finally makes it into the White House can count on us Brits being equally well prepped, thanks to the Israel lobby's energetic string-pulling on this side of the Atlantic too.

Israel's prime minister Olmert says AIPAC is "the greatest supporter and friend that we have in the whole world". It is certainly busy, claiming that "through more than 2,000 meetings with members of Congress... AIPAC activists help pass more than 100 pro-Israel legislative initiatives a year... procuring nearly $3 billion in aid critical to Israel's security." Lobbyists meet every member of Congress and cover every hearing on Capitol Hill that touches on the US-Israel relationship.

Little wonder that Ariel Sharon was able to brag: "We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it." Had he been available for comment today he'd probably be saying the same about the UK where AIPAC's little brother, Friends of Israel, has succeeded in embedding itself deep inside British politics and at the heart of government. Its stated aim is to promote Israel's interests in Parliament and sway policy.

Conservative Friends of Israel, for example, claims 80 percent of Conservative MPs and provides a programme of weekly briefings, events with speakers, and delegations to Israel. It also operates a 'Fast Track' for parliamentary candidates fighting target marginals at the next election.

According to senior Conservatives Israel is "a force for good in the world... In the battle for the values that we stand for, for democracy against theocracy, for democratic liberal values against repression - Israel's enemies are our enemies and this is a battle in which we all stand together".

Are they mad? We're talking here about a ruthless ethnocracy with racist policies, an apartheid agenda, advanced skills in state-terrorism and contempt for the UN Charter and international law.

Nevertheless MPs of all parties, and ministers, are basking in Israel's hospitality, absorbing the propaganda and allowing themselves to be persuaded to push the interest of this foreign military power sometimes at the expense of our own. Such conduct is at odds with the second of the Seven Principles of Public Life, namely Integrity – "Holders of public office should not place themselves under any financial or other obligation to outside individuals or organisations that might seek to influence them in the performance of their official duties."

Efforts are being made to have the influence of the Israel lobby investigated, but the people's watchdog - the Committee on Standards in Public Life - is itself infiltrated and refuses to act.

This week former Serb officers went on trial at The Hague for ethnic cleansing. They face life sentences for murder, persecution, forced deportations and inhuman acts during the 1991-95 Balkan wars. Many people feel it's time Israelis faced charges for similar crimes during the 60 years of occupation and catastrophe they have inflicted on the Holy Land. The list includes:

* torture
* collective punishment
* targeted assassinations
* house demolitions
* wholesale slaughter
* use of indiscriminate and prohibited weapons against civilians
* land theft
* engineering humanitarian disasters
* creating medical and public health crises
* the wanton destruction of key infrastructure and public ... private property
* restrictions on movement and trade
* illegal detention
* suppression of education
* denial of basic human rights
* denial of the right of refugees to return
* illegal settlements
* violation of every convention and code of conduct.

Speaking of the Holy Land, are the three stooges aware that Christian communities under Israeli occupation are being oppressed and crushed along with their Muslim neighbours?

It was heartening to read in The Guardian this week a letter signed by more than 100 prominent Jews saying they cannot celebrate the 60th birthday of a state "founded on terrorism, massacres and the dispossession of another people from their land... and that even now engages in ethnic cleansing." They'll celebrate when Arab and Jew live as equals in a peaceful Middle East.

So there you have it. Hillary/Barack/John the Third, you would do well to steer a different course in the Arab-Israel conflict. Quit stooging, kick AIPAC into touch, back off and re-think US foreign policy.

How much support do you think you'd get for annihilating 70 million Iranians?
