The climate debate has been construed as a left vs. right issue, but there is a third rail that could be called the Libertarian center, expressed by Alex Jones, Paul Watson and other writers at propagandamatrix.com and infowars.com. They've been attacking the AGW "consensus" for years, parallel with their often groundbreaking exposés on 9/11, the fraudulent War on Terror, bankster scams, and other machinations of the "deep state." They called the recent swine flu "pandemic" overblown hysteria serving only to enrich the vaccine manufacturers (the apocalyptic imagination at work again), and it now appears they were correct -- another tempest in a teapot.
They can be relied on for the conspiratorial interpretation of almost every big public event, some more plausible than others, and this includes AGW, which they insist is a Trojan Horse for globalist plans to engineer a world government. Not that all the IPCC scientists are part of some "vast globalist conspiracy," but that the AGW agenda is being exploited for ulterior purposes, much as Mencken observed:
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed -- and thus clamorous to be led to safety -- by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
I dismissed their claims for a long time -- a lot of conspiratorial research will make you somewhat paranoid. But now I'm not so sure. The utopian/dystopian dream of a world government is not delusionary -- it's pretty much what H.G. Wells called an "open conspiracy," and there is quite a public record of elite bigwigs lusting for a New World Order with they and their colleagues enthroned at the top of the pyramid:
"The Council on Foreign Relations is the American branch of a society which originated in England ... [and] ... believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one-world rule established."
"... the powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences."
There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international anglophile network which operates, to some extent, in the way the radical Right believes the communists act. In fact, this network, which we may aversion to cooperating with the Communists, or any other groups and frequently does so. Kissinger is referring to the prospect of a different kind of "new Pearl Harbor" -- an alien sneak attack, "real or promulgated," the necessary pretext for uniting humanity behind a global government. It may sound dotty, but Ronald Reagan, Douglas MacArthur and others are also on record making curious statements about the "alien threat," and how it could bring us all together, in the same way that nations suffering domestic conflict often launch wars against a common enemy, "real or promulgated," to distract and divert the conflict outwards. According to Steven Greer and others, a long-term plan is in the works, Project Bluebeam (http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?read=42593) -- staging a fake alien invasion using holographic-equipped satellites, electromagnetic weapons, secret anti-gravity craft (UFOs) and other tools in the black-budget arsenal of various military-industrial complexes.
This may sound dotty, but just as Project Northwoods served as an early blueprint for 9/11, the CIA and Pentagon proposed another bizarre scheme for getting rid of Castro: submarines would launch special fireworks over Cuba as covert assets spread the rumor that the Second Coming was at hand, Jesus was displeased with the Communist dictator, and so the good Cuban Catholics would be terrified into overthrowing the red Dictator. Suffice it to say the technology for perpetrating such a hoax is far more advanced than it was in the 1960s.
It's obvious that AGW well serves this agenda, without requiring a difficult-to-pull-off Hollywood spectacle of Aliens ravaging the planet. AGW is a common threat to the planet, and only a united effort by international bodies can save the day. My friend who asserts that AGW is useful for fighting corporate domination of the planet has it somewhat backwards, I believe -- all the international trade agreements so far, NAFTA and the like, have served only to run roughshod over sovereign environmental and labor laws while augmenting corporate power. Although I believe in the U.N. mission in many cases, and it needs more authority to curtail some of the environmental destruction plaguing us, I'm suspicious of the powermongers who dream of running the world. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and there could be no more seductive power than that of global government, and I'm certain that the megalomaniacal world bankers that Quigley speaks are rejoicing over the cap-and-trade bonanza.
