Don't Let The Senate Chamber Door Hit You On The Ass, Monserrate!

Despite the fact that New York City wakes up to a blizzard, I woke up quite exuberant today...can you guess as to why?

I'll bet that you have some idea.

ALBANY – A state senator, convicted of assaulting his girlfriend, was expelled from the State Senate, late Tuesday night.

The vote was 53 to 8, to kick out Sen. Hiram Monserrate, a Queens Democrat.

Monserrate was convicted of misdemeanor assault, following a trial last fall. He had been accused of assaulting Karla Giraldo, then dragging her through the lobby of their apartment building, in December 2008.

The senate had the option of censure. A felony conviction would have meant mandatory expulsion.

In a statement, Monserrate claims the expulsion disenfranchises the voters who elected him.

“There is no question those of us fortunate enough to hold a position of public trust must be held to a higher standard befitting the privilege of representing the people of New York”, said Senate Majority Conference Leader John Sampson. “Today, the Senate acted to protect the best interests of the people we serve and preserve the dignity of our body.”

Marcia Pappas, President of NOW-NYS stated, "For over a year The National Organization for Women-New York State has repeatedly sent the message that anything less than expulsion was not acceptable. Any form of violence against women is not acceptable. We hope that this serves as a wakeup call to all law makers. Whether you are a candidate or a sitting elected official, if you are violent towards another person, you are not fit to hold office."

I want the thank the members of the Senate who finally did the right thing and removed this sub-human piece of garbage from his position of power.

His arrogance in continuing to maintain that he was performing the will of the people would have continued to delegitimize the Senate, had he been allowed to retain his seat. Let's examine his conduct:

The committee criticized Monserrate for refusing to cooperate with its investigation. Its report noted that he was convicted of dragging his girlfriend in a domestic incident and told a judge he took full responsibility for his actions. But in later media interviews, he didn't acknowledge that, the report said.

If you'll recall, Monserrate was reportedly "enraged" at finding a PBA card in the possession of his girlfriend, Karla Giraldo. He reportedly was "bringing her a glass of water" when the glass somehow came to cut her face. He then insisted on dragging her to the hospital, which was caught on surveillance video (courtesy of Huffington Post) - click link to go to page.

He absolutely lied in regards to his accountability in this incident, and refused to take any responsibility. Add to this the shenanigans that he and fellow senator Pedro Espada engaged in last year which brought the Senate to a halt for over a month, and I think you'll agree with me that Monserrate had to go.

See ya!

In other news...I am interested in knowing if the New York Post is engaging in a smear campaign to induce current New York Governor David Paterson not to seek a full, elected term of office. Considering former governor Eliot Spitzer's untimely fall from grace, and the hard decisions Paterson has been forced to enact, he deserves the chance to see if New Yorkers will allow him to run for a full term. I believe that challenger Andrew Cuomo has a great chance; he is working to curb the daily malfeasance that occurs behind the scenes daily in New York, and I think the last thing New York needs now is yet another financial Ponzi scheme on the order of the Madoff scandal. The New York Times has not yet put out their story, and they are playing the old "follow the leader" game, stating that they're only following the story as the Post has reported. The one thing that really hit hard was the quote used on the cover of the Post yesterday: "I did NOT have sex with that woman". Don't you all remember where and from whom you heard that quote previously? That's right - it was our former whoremaster president, William Jefferson Clinton. You've been placed in great company, Paterson.

Let's see...and, if there isn't any merit at all to this story, let's see how large the apology to Paterson will be.

US charges Fla. lawyer with $1B investment fraud

The hits just keep on coming:

US charges Fla. lawyer with racketeering, fraud in $1B investment scam over fake settlements

* By Curt Anderson, AP Legal Affairs Writer
* On 11:00 am EST, Tuesday December 1, 2009

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A once high-flying attorney who courted politicians and celebrities was arrested Tuesday on federal racketeering and fraud charges alleging he operated a $1 billion investment scheme that used phony legal settlements.

Lawyer Scott Rothstein was led into the Miami FBI office in handcuffs following his early-morning arrest on five charges, including a violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations or RICO law often used against the Mafia and other criminal organizations.

Alicia Valle, spokeswoman for the Miami U.S. attorney's office, said Rothstein was also charged with mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. The combined maximum prison term for convictions on all counts is 100 years, according to court documents.

Rothstein was scheduled to appear in federal court later Tuesday. A news conference by prosecutors, the FBI and Internal Revenue Service was also planned.

The type of charging document filed by prosecutors, known as an "information," is typically used when a defendant has already agreed to plead guilty. Rothstein's attorney Marc Nurick declined comment Tuesday.

The document cites unnamed "other conspirators" who also played key roles in the fraud, suggesting that more people could face charges. In addition, the document says that Rothstein paid "gratuities" to unidentified police officials "to deflect law enforcement scrutiny" of his activities.

The criminal case was seen as inevitable after Rothstein returned from Morocco early last month amid mounting questions from investors and the FBI about missing money. The FBI has estimated the Ponzi scheme could top $1 billion and asked investors to come forward with information.

Federal agents have seized Rothstein's boats, including an 87-foot yacht, as well as 20 luxury cars and numerous other assets, including his share of the Miami Beach mansion formerly owned by fashion designer Gianni Versace. Prosecutors are also going after 21 homes and other properties linked to Rothstein in Florida, New York and along Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay.

Meanwhile, the once fast-growing law firm Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler is defunct and Rothstein has been disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court. Several investors have already filed lawsuits seeking their money back, including one case demanding more than $100 million in damages.

Rothstein promised huge returns on investments in legal settlements he said would pay out over time. Prosecutors say most of the settlements never existed and that Rothstein operated a Ponzi scheme, using money from new investors to pay older ones.

Shortly after the scandal broke, the Florida Democratic Party returned $200,000 in contributions from Rothstein and his law firm. The state Republican Party gave back $150,000, and Gov. Charlie Crist returned $9,600 that Rothstein and his wife, Kim, had donated to Crist's campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Rothstein's office is filled with photos of him with politicians from around the country, including former President George W. Bush, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Arizona Sen. John McCain and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was also close to Miami Dolphins great Dan Marino and many South Florida business and community leaders.

Thanks, Woodrow Wilson!

Mike Rivero wrote, in response to this news story, Obama: Debt Could Fuel 'Double-Dip Recession', "The two previous central banks nearly destroyed the USA. Why did our government authorize a third one?"

Now, let's just be clear..."our government" never authorized a third bank...this was a clandestine maneuver conducted by some quisling representatives, signed off on by then-President Woodrow Wilson. Mike has, authored by some other personage, the whole history of the establishment of central banks, and their dissolution by persons with integrity and the need to right the wrongs perpetrated against our august nation.

Ron Paul has called for an audit of the Federal Reserve, a move I feel is long overdue; of course, the "powers-that-be" are resisting such efforts. Now, think about that, and also, ponder the stories you're hearing about gold-plated bars of tungsten being found in our gold supply...and you should be more than a little disturbed in regards to what is going on in the background. Read America's Journey's latest entry to see the problem WE THE PEOPLE are experiencing since the various bits of scumbaggery perpetrated against us.

Do you want to see a day when our economy is equal to Mexico's? I do NOT.

So...Americans...you mission is this: vote out ANYONE and EVERYONE who does not have the best interests of America as their 1st, 2nd and LAST priorities.

Two Smackdowns • The U.S. as Failed State • Russia's Daring Vote

TWO SMACKDOWNS

Al Franken eviscerates a Stepford spokeswoman from the Hudson Institute on medical bankruptcies. Anyone who thought "Stuart Smiley" would be a lightweight in the Senate is wrong -- he's tough, well-prepared and he doesn't pull any punches:

"How many medical bankruptcies were there in Switzerland last year?"

"How many medical bankruptcies were there in France last year?"

MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan takes on Chamber of Commerce chief Tom Donohue:

Ratigan: "Unless the government and people like you that lobby to the exemptions that allow banks to [speculate with taxpayer money] get out of the way, we will never have fair play again in this country and we'll have job creation by virtue of taxpayer theft, which is ultimately destructive, and I would argue, treasonous to this country... Especially when you talk nonsense."

The US as Failed State

By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

http://www.counterpunch.com/roberts10222009.html

The US has every characteristic of a failed state.

The US government’s current operating budget is dependent on foreign financing and money creation.

Too politically weak to be able to advance its interests through diplomacy, the US relies on terrorism and military aggression.

Costs are out of control, and priorities are skewed in the interest of rich organized interest groups at the expense of the vast majority of citizens. For example, war at all cost, which enriches the armaments industry, the officer corps and the financial firms that handle the war’s financing, takes precedence over the needs of American citizens. There is no money to provide the uninsured with health care, but Pentagon officials have told the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee in the House that every gallon of gasoline delivered to US troops in Afghanistan costs American taxpayers $400.

“It is a number that we were not aware of and it is worrisome,” said Rep. John Murtha, chairman of the subcommittee.

According to reports, the US Marines in Afghanistan use 800,000 gallons of gasoline per day. At $400 per gallon, that comes to a $320,000,000 daily fuel bill for the Marines alone. Only a country totally out of control would squander resources in this way.

While the US government squanders $400 per gallon of gasoline in order to kill women and children in Afghanistan, many millions of Americans have lost their jobs and their homes and are experiencing the kind of misery that is the daily life of poor third world peoples. Americans are living in their cars and in public parks. America’s cities, towns, and states are suffering from the costs of economic dislocations and the reduction in tax revenues from the economy’s decline. Yet, Obama has sent more troops to Afghanistan, a country half way around the world that is not a threat to America.

It costs $750,000 per year for each soldier we have in Afghanistan. The soldiers, who are at risk of life and limb, are paid a pittance, but all of the privatized services to the military are rolling in excess profits. One of the great frauds perpetuated on the American people was the privatization of services that the US military traditionally performed for itself. “Our” elected leaders could not resist any opportunity to create at taxpayers’ expense private wealth that could be recycled to politicians in campaign contributions.

Republicans and Democrats on the take from the private insurance companies maintain that the US cannot afford to provide Americans with health care and that cuts must be made even in Social Security and Medicare. So how can the US afford bankrupting wars, much less totally pointless wars that serve no American interest?

The enormous scale of foreign borrowing and money creation necessary to finance Washington’s wars are sending the dollar to historic lows. The dollar has even experienced large declines relative to currencies of third world countries such as Botswana and Brazil. The decline in the dollar’s value reduces the purchasing power of Americans’ already declining incomes.

Despite the lowest level of housing starts in 64 years, the US housing market is flooded with unsold homes, and financial institutions have a huge and rising inventory of foreclosed homes not yet on the market.

Industrial production has collapsed to the level of 1999, wiping out a decade of growth in industrial output.

The enormous bank reserves created by the Federal Reserve are not finding their way into the economy. Instead, the banks are hoarding the reserves as insurance against the fraudulent derivatives that they purchased from the gangster Wall Street investment banks.

The regulatory agencies have been corrupted by private interests. Frontline reports that Alan Greenspan, Robert Rubin, and Larry Summers blocked Brooksley Born, the head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission from regulating derivatives. President Obama rewarded Larry Summers for his idiocy by appointing him Director of the National Economic Council. What this means is that profits for Wall Street will continue to be leeched from the diminishing blood supply of the American economy.

An unmistakable sign of third world despotism is a police force that sees the pubic as the enemy. Thanks to the federal government, our local police forces are now militarized and imbued with hostile attitudes toward the public. SWAT teams have proliferated, and even small towns now have police forces with the firepower of US Special Forces. Summons are increasingly delivered by SWAT teams that tyrannize citizens with broken down doors, a $400 or $500 repair born by the tyrannized resident. Recently a mayor and his family were the recipients of incompetence by the town’s local SWAT team, which mistakenly wrecked the mayor’s home, terrorized his family, and killed the family’s two friendly Labrador dogs.

If a town’s mayor can be treated in this way, what do you think is the fate of the poor white or black? Or the idealistic student who protests his government’s inhumanity?

In any failed state, the greatest threat to the population comes from the government and the police. That is certainly the situation today in the USA. Americans have no greater enemy than their own government. Washington is controlled by interest groups that enrich themselves at the expense of the American people.

The one percent that comprise the superrich are laughing as they say, “let them eat cake.”

Russia's Daring Vote

By ISRAEL SHAMIR

http://www.counterpunch.com/shamir10222009.html

Russia's vote to endorse the Goldstone Gaza report in the United Nations Human Rights Council last Friday was an important, milestone event both for Palestine and for Russia. For Palestine, this vote opened a way to try and sentence Israeli mass-murderers, and thus ushered Israel into a new era of responsibility after a long period of Wild West-style, Colt-45 justice. For Russia, this vote has proved to its own country and to the world that it is free from American and Zionist diktat and able to navigate its own policy...

Many people doubted his impartiality: Goldstone is a Jew -- a self-described Zionist, well-connected to Israel – he sits on the board of its University and his daughter even lived in Tel Aviv for a while. Goldstone was guided by his conscience and not by his blood. He went to Gaza, invested a lot of time and effort, and concluded: Israel has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. He recommended the case be transferred to the ICC court in the Hague. Israel did not cooperate and tried to undermine and block the report, but failed. That was the first Israeli defeat...

Israel was infuriated by this development. The Jewish State considered itself invulnerable behind the triple defense of the Sixth Fleet, the US Senate and the Holocaust Museum. President Obama's soft request to freeze the settlement building was met in Tel Aviv by what Internet chat calls "lol". He was ridiculed. Ehud Barak and Bibi Netanyahu even sped up their building plans in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in order to show that they could not care less. And now, all of a sudden, Jewish ministers of state are going to be judged as if they were Serbs or Sudanese.

Israeli leaders activated their main reserves, the US State Department and the Lobby. A few days ago I spoke with Martin Indyk, former US ambassador to Tel Aviv, and he confirmed that the US State Department will do all it can to stop the Goldstone report before it gets to the Security Council. Another American veto would not look good. Worse, an insulted and hurt Obama might just forget to veto an anti-Israeli decision...

A few years ago I wrote: "The world needs Russia, for since her star was obscured in 1990, for almost twenty years the runaway train of US and the loose cannon of Israel made a mess on the planet. Russia must stop their orgy of aggression and regain its place as the ultimate protector of the weak and the meek. This is her manifest destiny". The Geneva vote proved that Russia has done just that. We may once again connect our hopes with Russia in her friendship with China. They also can stop Israel from hurting itself and others.

So many people in the US and France, in Egypt and Palestine are tired of Israeli intransigence, egotism, hypocrisy and impunity. That is why so much hope was invested in Barack Obama after his Cairo talk. Obama had promised to cut Israel down to size, but meanwhile Israel cut him down to smaller-than-life. That is why the US is going down just like the Titanic, undermined by a Lobby iceberg and fleeced by financial wizards. Now Russia is coming under tremendous pressure from the US and other Zionist-led groups and states. We should pray she will withstand it and maintain her and our dignity.

Empire - A Review

Good afternoon, dear readers! Today, I'm going to review the 2002 release Empire, starring John Leguizamo, Peter Sarsgaard, Delilah Cotto, Denise Richards, Isabella Rossellini, Fat Joe, Treach and a cast of other very good actors.

The Wikipedia article on this movie does not do it justice. This movie is fantastic, and, if more people had paid attention to the myriad storylines within, maybe a lot of those people who fell prey to the likes of Bernard Madoff and the like would have seen what was coming.

John Leguizamo plays Victor Rosa, an entrepreneur (read: dope peddler) in the South Bronx, in the midst of a very sensitive turf war with three other dealers. They all purchase their dope from La Colombiana, played by Isabella Rossellini. As in the real world, the dealers have an identifying name to go with their particular offering; Vic calling his product Empire. He prefers to cut it the least, and develops both a good breed of customer and brand loyalty. His rivals, Tito Severe for example (played by Fat Joe), prefers to deal in quantity and cuts it without regard for purity. Vic is very cunning and has, for the most part, avoided the arrests that are usually prevalent in his line of business. At one point, Vic sets up decoys with wax paper bags filled with crushed graham crackers with "FUCK YOU" stamped on the baggies, thereby faking out the all-too-obvious undercover narcotics teams.

Vic has a beautiful girlfriend, Carmen, played by Delilah Cotto, who, even knowing his business, stands behind her man. It isn't blind loyalty, as you will see later in the movie. I wish to entice you to want to go buy this movie or rent it at Blockbuster or Netflix - it really is that good.

Of course, with any turf war goes the overstepping of boundaries, and this is dealt with quickly and decisively by Vic's crew. The person responsible unwittingly sets off the escalating chain of events that put everyone in danger, and the consequences are frightening.

Carmen's co-worker, Trish, played by Denise Richards, has a boyfriend by the name of Jack Wimmer, played by Peter Sarsgaard. Jack is charismatic, cool, and most importantly, not blind as to the reality of how he makes his living; for that, when he is introduced to Vic, he does not look down upon him; rather, he sees Vic and himself as kindred spirits, and they befriend each other immediately.

Carmen informs Vic that they are pregnant; not long after that, the repercussions of earlier retributions return as a hit is taken on Vic, who is wounded, but not fatally. This gets Vic to thinking about leaving his business, and instead joining Jack in his very lucrative investments. He moves out of the South Bronx into an unused Soho loft, offered by Jack. He begins alienating his former crew for socialite parties with Jack and Trish, something Carmen now regrets.

His first investment pans out to a 200% return; Vic is amazed with the ease at which Jack can make such things happen. When a deal is mentioned that has an even higher rate of return, Vic throws caution to the wind and goes for it...but there are extenuating circumstances. One, he must rein in Jimmy, his former lieutenant, from his hyper-violent proclivities; two, being a million and a half short, he approaches La Colombiana with an offer to include her into the money train - her response to him is that Jimmy must go, and the money is his. Painful decisions are made, and the deal is in the offing.

Of course, this is where the movie parallels recent occurrences - Vic is taken for every cent he's got, and Jack Wimmer disappears...seemingly without a trace. Vic returns to what's left of his former crew and elicits what financial means they have to try out a long shot, which pans out. Of course, Jack Wimmer's fate does not parallel Bernie Madoff's...at least, not as of yet, but if you see this movie, you may ask yourself...why NOT.

Speaking of Bernies...how's my pal, Bernie Kerik...or should I say Inmate #210717? Not so bloody smug anymore, now are we?

The Criminal Rothschilds; Sibel Edmonds Hits A Grand Slam!

"If my sons did not want wars, there would be none." ~ Gutle Schnaper, Mayer Amschel Rothschilds wife

I am one of those who do not believe the national debt is a national blessing... it is calculated to raise around the administration a moneyed aristocracy dangerous to the liberties of the country
.
Andrew Jackson, Letter to L. H. Coleman of Warrenton, N.C., 29 April 1824

Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture are afraid of somebody, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.

Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom (1913), Doubleday

From the days of Spartacus-Weishaupt to those of Karl Marx, and down to Trotsky (Russia), Bela Kun (Hungary), Rosa Luxembourg (Germany), and Emma Goldman (United States), this world-wide conspiracy for the overthrow of civilisation and for the reconstitution of society on the basis of arrested development, of envious malevolence, and impossible equality, has been steadily growing. It played, as a modern writer, Mrs. Webster, has so ably shown, a definitely recognisable part in the tragedy of the French Revolution. It has been the mainspring of every subversive movement during the Nineteenth Century; and now at last this band of extraordinary personalities from the underworld of the great cities of Europe and America have gripped the Russian people by the hair of their heads and have become practically the undisputed masters of that enormous empire.

Winston Churchill, "Zionism versus Bolshevism", Illustrated Sunday Herald (London), February 8, 1920, pg. 5

The people must be helped to think naturally about money. They must be told what it is, and what makes it money, and what are the possible tricks of the present system which put nations and peoples under control of the few.

Henry Ford, My Life and Work, Doubleday, Page & Company, 1922

I am afraid that the ordinary citizen will not like to be told that the banks can, and do, create and destroy money. The amount of money in existence varies only with the action of the banks in increasing or decreasing deposits and bank purchases. Every loan, overdraft or bank purchase creates a deposit, and every repayment or bank sale destroys a deposit. .... And they who control the credit of a nation, direct the policy of Governments and hold in the hollow of their hands the destiny of the people.

Reginald McKenna, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer, addressing the shareholders as Chairman of the Midland Bank, at the Annual General Meeting in January 1924.

The present Federal Reserve System is a flagrant case of the Governments conferring a special privilege upon bankers. The Government hands to the banks its credit, at virtually no cost to the banks, to be loaned out by the bankers for their own private profit. Still worse, however, is the fact that it gives the bankers practically complete control of the amount of money that shall be in circulation. Not one dollar of these Federal Reserve notes gets into circulation without being borrowed into circulation and without someone paying interest to some bank to keep it circulating. Our present money system is a debt money system. Before a dollar can circulate, a debt must be created. Such a system assumes that you can borrow yourself out of debt.

Willis A. Overholser, A short review and analysis of the history of money in the United States, with an introduction to the current money problem (1936), p. 56

Hey - have you heard about the explosive piece in The American Conservative by Sibel Edmonds?

You HAVEN'T? The devil, you say...why don't you contact your news outlets and ask them why they aren't covering that story. You do realize that there are elements of treason involved in this story.

I want you to watch the Michael Chertoff video...and as you do, go to this link and download and read the peer-reviewed document regarding UNEXPLODED NANO-THERMITE found in the dust that used to be World Trade Center Buildings 1,2 & 7.

The Middle East, RAID (The S.E. Johnson Product), Highlander and the Occupation of Gaza

I was conducting a morning conference when an odd sequence of events was brought to my attention. I have the radio tuned into 1010WINS, as I do every morning. There are commercials, of course, that "pay" for the news being presented, and often for products being advertised. There is a new commercial for RAID that touts its best new feature as being completely odorless. Well, since I'm certain that bug spray is inherently bad for humans, I'd prefer to know that an area has been prepared using said product...but I digress. The commercial affords the pesky insects anthropomorphous personalities, and makes allusions to "bugs not going to Heaven". Now, before the commercial ended, I mused, "Now, if my Distraction Media" claim has any validity at all, this commercial will be followed up by some item regarding the Middle East.

Why do I say this? It may not be common knowledge, but the religious texts of Judaism refer to two sets of people: Jews and goyim. Many Israeli officials have referred to the populations of the Middle East as less than human:

 Jewish Talmudic Doctrine: Non-Jews are Not Humans

The Talmud specifically defines all who are not Jews as non-human animals, and specifically dehumanizes Gentiles as not being descendants of Adam. We will now list some of the Talmud passages which relate to this topic.

Menahoth 43b-44a. A Jewish man is obligated to say the following prayer every day: Thank you God  for not making me a Gentile, a woman or a slave.

Kehuboth 6b. [Now] does it not mean that if he had yet no intercourse [with his wife] he may have intercourse [with her] even on Sabbath? Said Raba: No, except Sabbath. Said Abaye to him: But it says, `until the night following the Sabbath [one gives her] four nights'? Only, said Raba, when he already had intercourse [with her]. If [it were, as you say,] after he already had intercourse, what does he let us hear? He lets us hear that it is allowed to have intercourse on Sabbath, as that [statement] of Samuel [teaches], for Samuel said: One may enter into a narrow opening on Sabbath, although he causes pebbles to break loose.

Uses of Oil of Annointing. Our Rabbis have taught: He who pours the oil of anointing over cattle or vessels is not guilty; if over gentiles [Hebrew: goyim] or the dead, he is not guilty. The law relating to cattle and vessels is right, for it is written: "Upon the flesh of man [Hebrew: adam] shall it not be poured [Exodus 30:32]"; and cattle and vessels are not man [adam]. Also with regard to the dead, [it is plausible] that he is exempt, since after death one is called corpse and not a man [adam]. But why is one exempt in the case of gentiles [goyim]; are they not in the category of man [adam]?--No, it is written: "And ye my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are man [adam] [Ezekiel 34:31]": Ye are called man [adam] but gentiles [goyim] are not called man [adam]. (Ed. but by implication, Cain),

In the above passage, the Rabbis are discussing the Mosaic law which forbids applying holy oil to men. In the discussion, the Rabbis state that it is not a sin to apply the holy oil to gentiles, since gentiles are not human beings (literally, Adam, and are by implication, Cain).

Yebamoth 61a: It was taught: And so did R. Simeon ben Yohai state [61a] that the graves of gentiles [goyim] do not impart levitical uncleanness by an ohel [standing or bending over a grave], for it is said, "And ye my sheep the sheep of my pasture, are men [adam]" [Ezekiel 34:31]; you are called men [adam] but the idolaters are not called men [adam].

The Mosaic law states that touching a human corpse or grave imparts uncleanness to those who touch it. But the Talmud here teaches that if a Jew touches the grave of a gentile, it does not make him unclean, since gentiles are not human (literally, Adam).

Baba Mezia 114b: Said he [Rabbah] to him: Art thou not a priest: why then dost thou stand in a cemetery? - He replied: Has the Master not studied the laws of purity? For it has been taught: R. Simeon ben Yohai said: The graves of gentiles [goyim] do not defile, for it is written, "And ye my flock, the flock of my pastures, are men [adam]" [Ezekiel 34:31]; only ye are designated men [Adam].

A Jewish priest was standing in a graveyard. When asked why he was standing there in apparent violation of the Mosaic law, he replied that it was permissible, since the law only prohibits Jews from coming into contact with the graves of humans [adam], and he was standing in a gentile graveyard.

Since the so-called Scriptural proof text (Ezekiel 34:31) repeatedly cited in the above three Talmud passages in reality does not prove that only Jews are human, it is self-evident that the Talmudic sages who asserted the preceding absurdities about Gentiles were already anti-Gentile racists or ideologues who, in desperate search of some proof of their position, distorted an Old Testament passage in order to justify their bigotry. Their ideology came first, their "proof" second.

Berakoth 58a R. Shila administered lashes to a man who had intercourse with an Egyptian woman. The man went and informed against him to the Government, saying: There is a man among the Jews who passes judgment without the permission of the Government. An official was sent to [summon] him. When he came he was asked: Why did you flog that man? He replied: Because he had intercourse with a she-ass.

They said to him: Have you witnesses? He replied: I have. Elijah thereupon came in the form of a man and gave evidence. They said to him: If that is the case he ought to be put to death! He replied: Since we have been exiled from our land, we have no authority to put to death; do with him what you please.

While they were considering his case, R. Shila exclaimed, "Thine, Oh Lord, is the greatness and the power" [1 Chronicles 29:11] What are you saying? they asked him. He replied: What I am saying is this: Blessed is the All-Merciful who has made the earthly royalty on the model of the heavenly, and has invested you with dominion, and made you lovers of justice.

They said to him: Are you so solicitous for the honor of the Government? They handed him a staff and said to him: You may act as judge. When he went out that man said to him: Does the All-Merciful perform miracles for liars?

He replied: Wretch! Are they not called asses? For it is written: "Whose flesh is as the flesh of asses" [Ezekiel 23:20]. He noticed that the man was about to inform them that he had called them asses. He said: This man is a persecutor, and the Torah has said: If a man comes to kill you, rise early and kill him first. So he struck him with the staff and killed him. He then said: Since a miracle has been wrought for me through this verse, I will expound it."

Our apologies for subjecting our readers to the preceding lengthy Talmudic drivel, but it is best to include all of it to demonstrate its depravity.

In addition to having Elijah float down from heaven to deceive the Gentile court, the Talmud teaches that Gentiles are in reality animals, hence Rabbi Shila (and Elijah) did not really lie at all. It also teaches that anyone (even a Jewish man) who reveals this Talmud truth about non-Jews deserves execution, since revealing it makes Gentiles angry and causes persecution of the Jews.

We can only rejoice that the majority of Jews today do not follow such heinous teachings; only a few openly espouse the Talmud as divinely inspired, although unfortunately these few are sometimes to be found in influential leadership positions.

(Parenthetically, the above Scripture proof-text cited by the rabbis, does not prove that Gentiles are not human, being animals. The passage from Ezekiel in the Bible only says that some Egyptians had large sex organs and copious emissions. This does not in any way prove or even connote that the Egyptians being referred to in the Bible were considered animals).

Having sufficiently proven our point from the Talmud, namely that the Talmud teaches that Gentiles are not human [Hebrew: Adam], and are really animals, we will list a few other passages which expound on the Ezekiel 23:20 "proof text", allowing our readers to research them on their own: Arakin 19b, Berakoth 25b, Niddah 45a, Shabbath 150a, Yebamoth 98a.

The original text of Sanhedrin 37a applies God's approval only to the saving of Jewish lives. This is demonstrable by referring to Jewish books such as the Hesronot Ha-shas.

I may add direct quotations to this posting, if requested.

That being said...would you believe that 1010WINS played a bumper, complete with the sounds of warfare in the background, of their "effectiveness" of reporting the situation in the Middle East?

This was the 7:00 hour from this morning's broadcast. I may look for a recording of that moment. In my opinion, this was a clever segue into the events occurring in the Middle East, and how the land should be "wiped clean" of the perceived insects, the Palestinians.

Okay...so what does Highlander have to do with all of this?

Highlander, directed by Ridley Scott, starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Roxanne Hart, is one of the most fantastic movies ever created. Now here, for the purposes of purity, forget about the sequels, especially that tripe recoded on film called Highlander 2; let's deal solely with the original product. This is your classic struggle of good versus evil, except that this one is for all the marbles. The idea of the movie is that these men, chosen to fight for the fate of the universe, can only be killed by cutting off their heads; their accumulated skills and power of will then taken on by their dispatcher. It is made clear that when there are but a few of them left, they will all feel a compulsion to meet in a faraway land, where they will engage in final battle, for the Prize.

It's not 1900, by any stretch of the imagination...but then again, how many of you have actually even seen 1900, much less sat through the five hours required?

One of the rules is that their are sanctuaries where one cannot attack another. At a later point in the movie, Conner MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) and the Kurgan (Clancy Brown) meet in a church. They goad each other verbally, but they both know that this rule must be observed.

At this point, I wish to interject with a clip from Edwin M. Wright's The Great Zionist Cover-Up (physically page 61 of the PDF, labeled page 52 of the document):

A post card signed "J C Stern" and addressed to Edwin M. Wright, Advisor to Dulles, Washington D.C. and postmarked Los Angeles May 21, 1956, states

"We know you well and class you with Hitler. As long as there is a world there will be Israel and the Jews. Spit your hate and see how far you get."

Lest you get some brickbats intended for me - I'm sending this explanation. Harry Howard is responsible! His wife arranged for the briefing of the AAUW. I gave a 53 "global survey" in which discussions of NE problems were very brief. I doubt if I spent over 10 minutes on the whole NEA area. Evidently the Bible is a dangerous book to quote. In the wrong hands, it can be alleged to show that when the Jews repeatedly reoccupied Palestine, they were not very kind to the older and local inhabitants.

I have always been fascinated with historical geography. During the four years with G-2 U.S. Armed Forces in the Middle East (U.S.A.F.I.M.E.), I teamed up with a friend - Rabbi Nelson Glueck, one of the foremost Reform Jewish Rabbis and an outstanding scholar. He was operating under "cover" for the O.S.S., where I first met him as a colleague in 1941-42. In Palestine I toured with him weekends and put history and geography together. In 1956, I organized a Training Tour of three months for 30 U.S. government officers who worked on Middle Eastern affairs. We visited each state in the area for a week or more where we interviewed leaders in government, the press, business, etc., and I was "Lecturer" in visiting historic spots. We spent eight to ten days in Israel.

The first trip in 1956 brought me into close contact with the Orthodox Rabbinate. Rabbi Yacov Herzog, the son of the former Rabbi Herzog (from Ireland), Chief Rabbi of the Ashkenazi Jews, was in charge of the American section of the Israeli Foreign Office. He was in charge of the two days we spent in Jerusalem. He was so Orthodox he would not shake hands with a woman (and we had several), he would not write on the Sabbath, nor would he answer the telephone on the Sabbath. He appointed Rabbi Pinhas Eliav as our Escort Officer for touring Israel. We hired a bus and went to Beersheba, Galilee, Haifa, and other regions where we visited Kibbutzim, factories, schools, 54 etc., so as to get the "feel" of Israel. At all times Rabbi Pinhas, also an Orthodox Rabbi, was with us.

As a result of my studies and experience, I came to be highly suspicious of the word "Orthodox" which means "Right-thought." It assumes that any difference of opinion is "Wrong-thought." While in Iraq, in 1921-23, I had visited Sir Leonard Woolley's excavations at Ur, one of the ancient city States of the Sumerians. Professor James B. Pritchard's two books Archaeology and the Old Testament and The Ancient Near East place side by side passages from Sumerian literature - with other passages from the Old Testament - indicating how the writers of the latter borrowed from the former. The story of Noah is a paraphrase of parts of the Gilgamesh Epic, and the birth of Moses is an almost exact duplicate of the myth of the birth of Sargon of Akkad who lived about 2150 B.C. The Orthodox Rabbinate in Israel insist that the Torah and Taanach are of Divine Origin, inerrant, infallible, and immutable, and any one who disagrees is an enemy trying to destroy the Will of God. This makes communication between the Orthodox and anyone not Orthodox almost impossible.

Having an Orthodox Rabbi listening to every word I said was both awkward and embarrassing. His responsibility was to indoctrinate us in the Orthodox tradition; mine was to try to describe what I believed had actually happened in history. We often came to embarrassing confrontations on many occasions. For instance, in riding down from Jerusalem to Beersheba, we went down the Valley of Sorek. The bus had a loud-speaker which I used to explain the story of Samson and Delilah in the book of Judges. I pointed out the name Samson is the Hebrew-Arabic name for Sun, and Delilah means, "She 55 of the Night" - that this story belonged to the early folk-hero legends of Israel which corresponded to the folk-hero tales of all cultures - the Iliad and Odyssey of the Greeks, the Prometheus myth, the Heracles-Hercules myth, the Osiris-Usus-Set myth in Egypt, the Tammuz Sumerian-Babylonian myth, and the Rustam hero tales of early Iran. These myths are personifications of the forces of nature. Among the most popular such myths was that of the Sun God rising in power in the morning, but in the evening dying in the west, lured to its death by the Goddess of the Night. I made reference to Joseph Campbell's book The Hero of a Thousand Faces and his four volume The Masks of God and urged them to read these books. Rabbi Pinhas was furious.

But the showdown came when we were in Carmiel (above Haifa). It is now a purely Jewish town, and non-Jews are prohibited renting, owning or working in the area, though previous to 1948, there were three Arab villages there, whose lands had been confiscated and turned over to the Jewish National Fund. Fouzi el Asmar in his book To Be An Arab In Israel (page 44:107-8) describes how he was shunned when he was invited by a friend to visit in this purely Jewish town - as it is now.

I felt it was important our group understand Israeli land laws. After lunch, I took the group to a lookout point and gave a talk on the history of the northwest Galilee. Pointing to the east, there lies the small stream and plain where the fold-heroine Jael pounded a tent peg through the head of the Philistine Sisera while he was asleep in her tent. (Judges 4.) We were standing on the spot where Elijah slew 2,000 priests of Baal after his divine miracle. To the north we could see the mountains of Lebanon - at the time of Solomon 56 the source of the timber for building the Temple in Jerusalem. To get that timber, Solomon, among his thousand wives, probably married a pagan daughter of Hiram, King of Tyre, and ceded several villages to Tyre. He then intensified corvee (forced) labor upon the Hebrews to cut and transport the timber to Jerusalem. It was this forced labor which brought on a revolt of the northern tribes against the son of Solomon - Jereboam - and forever destroyed Hebrew unity.

Rabbi Pinhas could not contain his anger and said my story was not true. That evening we were at the U.S. Consulate in Haifa for an outdoor dinner, and I asked for a Bible. I read from I Kings 5 to substantiate my story. This was humiliating to Rabbi Pinhas, and he was later to get his revenge. It had another effect. The 30 officers in the course became very suspicious about everything they were told by Israelis and would ask me afterwards, "What's the truth?" Rabbi Pinhas's revenge was to go to Rabbi Herzog and Teddy Kolleck. He complained that I had insulted him and Israel and made it impossible for him to get the Israeli point of view across. The result was a visit to the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv by a delegation of two, who asked the Ambassador to inform the State Department I was persona non grata in Israel. The Ambassador recommended that I should not be sent to Israel in the future. Fortunately for me, the Ambassador left after 1957 and Ogden Reed of New York was the new Ambassador. There was also a new Deputy - my former Chief in the office of Greek, Turkish and Iranian affairs - William Baxter. Bill knew Turkish and had taught at Robert College, Istanbul. He well knew me and the whole 57 story, so in 1958 and following years, I was again allowed to enter Israel - but cautioned not to irritate the Rabbis!!

Rabbi Yacov Herzog later appeared in the Israeli Embassy in Washington. As a concession to the Gentile practice of shaking hands with women, he decided he would do so for public relations purposes. But the attack on me from the Orthodox Rabbinate in the U.S. entered high gear.

The pretext for the next attack upon me developed out of a talk I gave at the National Presbyterian Church. I had recently returned from a three months study tour of the Middle East, and my friend Reverend Ed Elson, the Pastor, also President Eisenhower's Pastor, asked me to give a report on my visit. It was a tense time. By a conspiracy, Israel, France and Great Britain had launched an attack upon Egypt two weeks before, and the headlines were focused on the Suez Canal. I spoke for an hour reporting my findings on Turkey, Iran, and Israel, as well as four Arab states. In the audience was Mrs. Lillian Levy, a Jewish reporter. My talk was factual, and I tried to avoid controversial statements - and succeeded. Then came the question and answer period. A Presbyterian minister in the audience asked me, "What part is religion playing in the modern Middle East?" In my reply I said that the Middle East had never had a Renaissance like Europe in the 15th-17th Centuries. Therefore to understand religious passions, it was necessary to recall what happened in Europe. The shift from religious wars to secular national wars came in the Thirty Years War 1618-1648. The Middle East was in that same shift now. Turkey had only become a national secular state under Kemal Ataturk during 1923-1928. Lebanon was in form secular but in fact a balance of 58 religious minorities. All other states were in the throes of religious change which had produced violent internal movements of three kinds - (1) Reactionary, (2) Evolutionary, and (3) Revolutionary. The Reactionary were interested in the preservation of theocratic traditions and institutions and are afraid of secular, scientific, and national forces. In Europe, it was the clash of the Papacy vs. Copernicus, Galileo, and the Reformers. Judaism in Spain had witnessed the same phenomenon earlier. The Arab schools had introduced Greek rationalism especially in Cordova. The greatest of Jewish scholars, Moses Maimonides, had been attacked because he had followed the rational theories of Ibn Rushd, and an extreme Orthodox sect had ex-communicated him. These reactionary groups were now represented in the Islamic world by such groups as the Ikhwan - el Muslimeen, the Mollah Kashani Fidayeen in Iran and the Orthodox Rabbinate in Israel.

But I expressed the opinion that the Middle East would repeat the European mode. The future of the Middle East depended upon its mastery of technology and the scientific world view. In this, the various orthodoxies, which emphasized a static and nostalgic effort to preserve the past - rituals and social customs - had little to contribute to what was an explosive situation. The Middle East was trying to move from centuries- old stagnation to a new dynamic form of society in one generation.

Mrs. Lillian Levy is a creative journalist. By selecting a few phrases and adding some statements I did not make, she published a pseudo-report of my talk. Her report was like the hunters' trumpet for the Zionists and Orthodox to unleash their bloodhounds and track the victim. Mrs. Levy appointed herself 59 a one woman inquisition and tried to get interviews with everyone in my office. There were some young Jewish Foreign Service officers in the orientation course, where I lectured on the Middle East. She got their names and invited them out to lunch to quiz them about me. I was living then in McLain, Virginia. Odd characters claiming they were investigating me as an insurance applicant asked my neighbors about my habits - what did I do over weekends? Did I get drunk? Did I have a wild sex life? My neighbors asked me what was going on. Unfortunately for Mrs. Levy's bloodhounds, my sex life is very dull, and I am almost, but not quite, a teetotaler in relation to alcohol. But the Jewish Telegraph Agency - with Milton Friedman to the fore - took up the hue and cry as shown on the following pages.

An anonymous correspondent living in Los Angeles sent me a clipping from the California Jewish Voice of December 7, 1956. He had liberally decorated it with interpolations such as "Aw Nuts," "Jewish Insolence" and sent it without any return address - a kind of mail I began to anticipate. It was as follows:
U.S. JEWISH GROUPS ASK STATE DEPARTMENT TO OUST ITS ANTI- SEMITIC LECTURER.

New York (J.T.A.) Protesting the "warped and bigoted" anti-Semitic speech delivered recently by Edwin Wright, a high official of the State Department, the American Jewish Congress appealed this week, to the department, "publicly to repudiate his statements." The A.C.J. also called for the removal of Mr. Wright from any position of influence or authority within the State Department. A similar demand was made earlier by the Agudas Israel of America in letters addressed to President Eisenhower and to Secretary of State John Foster Dulles.

In a letter to Herbert Hoover, the Acting Secretary of State, Judge Justine A. Polier, Chairman of the American Jewish Congress Executive Committee deplored the "incredible" anti-Jewish remarks made by Mr. Wright, Assistant Dean of the Foreign Service Institute of the State Department, in a 60 speech delivered at the National Presbyterian Church in Washington on November 1 (1956).

The Department of State, Judge Polier said, is under an obligation to rectify the wrong that has been done and not only to dis-associate itself from Mr. Wright's remarks but publicly to repudiate his statements in a manner that will make it unmistakable they have no place in American public life and play no role in the determination of American public policy. This should be followed by the removal of Mr. Wright from a position of influence or authority within the State Department.

The Agudas Israel letter stated, "It is unthinkable that a government official should permit himself to so callously malign the millions of Agudas Israel citizens of the Orthodox Jewish faith who have made their productive contribution to every phase of American life. The glorious service to mankind rendered by American citizens who observe their faith and proved their loyalty to our beloved country is a matter of public record. Their religious faith had often been the source of inspiration that enables the American Jews to develop their manifold contributions for the betterment of society.

I had no idea who Judge Polier was, but it interested me that a U.S. Judge had condemned me on the basis of hearsay evidence- especially when Milton Friedman was working for the Jewish Telegraph Agency. So I tried to discover who this irate lady was - and was told she was the daughter of Rabbi Stephen Wise. If so, that explained everything. It was the Father who threatened Truman that unless he supported the Zionist program, "Truman would be run out of town." Now it was the daughter, ignoring all rules of a Law Court, using her position to run me out of the State Department. I decided the emotional quality of the Father was inherited by the daughter - "Like Father - Like Daughter."

I am most grateful that I live as a citizen in a society which developed its Law from the Graeco-Roman model - no the Jewish one. As an example, Numbers 5:11 starts with the phrase "And the Lord spoke unto Moses saying." Then follows a passage about how a jealous husband deals with a wife of whom he is suspicious. The procedure is pure Voodoo-Magic found in all primitive 61 peoples - yet here it is specifically attributed to God. Because "western law" is largely Graeco-Roman, the State of Israel has never adopted the principle "God is no respecter of persons" a thesis which appears in Acts 10:34. This is the absolute opposite of the belief in a Chosen People. So in Israel today - Goyim are administered by the British Emergency Regulations of 1945, as applied by the Police or the Military. When Judge Polier took for granted my guilt, being accused by Milton Friedman, she was acting like a Judge in Israel.

But in the U.S.A. I had a chance to give my side of the story. So I went to five who were in the audience that night, showed them the Milton Friedman article and asked them to give their reactions. The accusation fell apart. (The correspondence on this case is in the Appendix #6.)

I was fortunate in my friends. The Reverend Ed Elson went directly to the White House, spoke to President Eisenhower and Maxwell Rabb, and gave the whole story. In the Foreign Service Institute, my Director was Harold L. Hoskins. His father was a missionary doctor in Lebanon. He was born in Syria. In 1942-45 he had served as a Special Representative of President Roosevelt. He spoke fluent Arabic, and while he was in Egypt in 1943-45, in charge of Lend Lease, we had enjoyed close personal relationships. He had come under attack because of his "Arabic" background, so he well knew Zionist tactics. He refused to give Mrs. Levy an interview and told other members of the staff to avoid her. He finally got out a statement which was issued by Public Relations if anyone inquired about me. After some two months, the effort to remove me from the State Department died down. It was fortunate this incident occurred during the Eisenhower Presidency. Eisenhower was greatly irritated 62 by the Israeli-U.K.- French aggression against Egypt and ordered Israel out of the Sinai with the threat of economic sanctions if they did not withdraw. Both Eisenhower and Dulles came under Zionist attack, and possibly Eisenhower recollected I had been his briefing officer in the Pentagon when he became Chief of Staff in 1946. I had also been Escort Officer and Interpreter between President Eisenhower and President Bayar of Turkey.

Whatever the facts may be, I was not fired! In fact, quite the opposite. Many people, unsolicited, came to my defense, and in 1964, I was granted a Superior Merit Award by the Department. One of my close colleagues was somewhat jealous. His complaint was he said practically what I said, but the Zionists never attacked him. He felt he must not be of sufficient importance to be attacked. I told him to take comfort. The difference between us was that I quoted the Bible and that stung the Zionists to the quick. Gentiles are not supposed to know the Bible. They are to believe it as God's Holy Word - but not know what it contained. This colleague is Harry N. Howard, a distinguished scholar and author of several books, and a fellow worker with me in the Department of State for over 20 years. (10)

The type of Zionist attack on State Department officers received great impetus when President Truman himself joined in the attack. He diverted the Zionist threats against him by turning them against his own Departmental officers. And it worked. Truman was elected by a narrow majority. He Also the author of The King-Crane Report and The Partition of Turkey. (10) 63 got Jewish funds, 80 per cent of the Jewish vote, and great praise. The Zionists had smelled blood in the case of Loy Henderson and were now out after others of his staff.

Now consider the actions of the Israelis as they have once again occupied Palestine. To gain occupancy of the territory by use of the Balfour Declaration, they entered into and then broke a treaty to Britian. Now, the Kurgan, who proves himself to be the most evil, reprehensible individual ever created, won't violate such a milquetoast rule, and could've run through MacLeod from behind as he entered, and he doesn't...what does that say for a people who willfully break their word at the drop of a hat?

Okay...you may think that I'm oversimplifying things here...but let's try this from another tack.

Everyone here in favor of being against APARTHEID? No argument, right? It's still a bad thing to take over someone's land and make them slaves on their own property, right?

Why doesn't this apply to the Middle East situation?

Oh...now it's complicated, right?

So...I began thinking of other things, like the prediction of December 21, 2012, as the last day of the Mayan calendar, and, according to cognoscenti, the last day we will experience on Earth. I was also thinking about the massive amounts of malfeasance being performed against the American middle-class worker, and I thought, "...you know...if the Federal Reserve were nationalized, we could erase the 'debt' Americans have incurred, escape the fate that befell Russia, and once again be the America of our forefathers."

We may want to do all sorts of "irresponsible" things, like maybe providing a nuclear missile to Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. If the world's gonna go poof before 2013, maybe we all ought to have a big burn-off to commemorate it. Remember, Iran hasn't attacked anyone in over two hundred years. I just believe that we can engender a better situation in the Middle East with some parity established.

If these are our last moments, I certainly don't intend on wasting my remaining moments toiling for scumbags.

Alex Jones on Russian News

Reposted from Brian:

Added a new blog to my list: Let Liberty Ring.

Also, WRH has a LiveLeak video regarding a CVS Pharmacy that was being robbed. What's the big deal about this? The pharmacist had a gun, and the robber ran away with his tail between his legs.

And not one officer available.

Just remember this when the commercials paid for by current NYC mayor Michael R. Bloomberg go live in Virginia. The Second Amendment was designed for exactly this purpose...that you are not fodder for the scumbags and criminals infesting our society.

1010WINS PsyOp; Where Is The Law That States WE THE PEOPLE Must Pay Taxes?

This morning, 1010WINS ran a story regarding the individual who piloted a Cessna over the US today...they made a huge point of indicating that the individual's nationality was Turkish.

This followed a story about the fellow who purportedly threatened the life of President Obama while on his World Tour...whoa! Not only did he have a fraudulent press pass from Al-Jazeera (thereby invoking a non-status upon its journalistic efforts), he was from TURKEY!

So...not so much, right? Well...this was then followed by an AIRLINE COMMERCIAL...shades of 9/11!

Let's face it...America's currency, the dollar, is in dire straits, and our administration (and more importantly, the scumbags behind the scenes) needs a distraction; Bill Clinton getting hummers just won't do anymore.

In other news...it's tax time! Here's a posting regarding that subject:

Subject: $50,000 for you, Just show the law that you must pay taxes...

For the last 2 months I have been trying to make one of my friends happy with $50,000, most people don't make that much in a year. The money is still available.

No shit - $50.000 dollar can be yours just for showing in the constitution, tax code or anywhere else, where it is written that citizens MUST pay taxes. Watch the video and she will tell how. First you must know this reward has been available for years and not one person has been able to prove it. Seems a relatively simple task to make a quick 50K ,doesn't it? Well, what the hell you waiting for? People are murdered these days over a 100 dollars, so imagine what the average person would do for 50k. What does this say for the fact the money has never been claimed?

I challenge you to go get the money!
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

9/11 Smoking Gun: Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 WTC
http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=13049

Dr. Steven E. Jones, co-author of the paper formally published in the peer-reviewed Open Chemical Physics Journal writes:

"In short, the paper explodes the official story that “no evidence” exists for explosive/pyrotechnic materials in the WTC buildings." The red/gray chips are the "loaded gun" of 9-11.
What is high-tech explosive/pyrotechnic material in large quantities doing in the WTC dust? Who made tons of this stuff and why? Why have government investigators refused to look for explosive residues in the WTC aftermath?

The peer-review on this paper was grueling, with pages of comments by referees. The tough questions the reviewers raised led to months of further experiments. These studies added much to the paper, including observation and photographs of iron-aluminum rich spheres produced as the material is ignited in a Differential Scanning Calorimeter.

Thermite, and thermate, are compounds used to melt steel, commonly used in building demolitions.

Several very senior CIA veterans have called the 9/11 Commission Report "a cover up" and "a joke" and have called for a new investigation. Several former Republican administration senior appointees have called for a new investigation. Several U.S. State Department veterans have called for a new investigation. And dozens of former senior U.S. military officers have also called for a new investigation.

Marijuana helps in battle against cancer: study

Friday, April 3, 2009

The main chemical in marijuana appears to aid in the destruction of brain cancer cells, offering hope for future anti-cancer therapies, researchers in Spain wrote in a study released Thursday.

The authors from the Complutense University in Madrid, working with scientists from other universities, found that the active component of marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), causes cancer cells to undergo a process called autophagy -- the breakdown that occurs when the cell essentially self-digests....

Britain responds to the "rule of law" nuisance

by Glenn Greenwald

...That's because torture is illegal in Britain, as it is in the United States. But unlike the United States: Britain hasn't completely abandoned the idea that even political officials must be accountable when they commit crimes; their political discourse isn't dominated and infected by the subservient government-defending likes of David Ignatius, Ruth Marcus, David Broder and Stuart Taylor demanding that government officials be free to commit even serious war crimes with total impunity; and they don't have "opposition leaders" who are so afraid of their own shadows and/or so supportive of torture that they remain mute in the face of such allegations. To the contrary, demands for criminal investigations into these episodes of torture (including demands for war crimes investigations from conservatives) span the political spectrum in Britain...

I found it, scumbags!

Printed below is the text that some nitwit on CounterKnowledge wished to make "not exist"...of course, I can always tell when some idiot is attempting some scumbaggery, and so I left my browser window open for the weekend. So...without further ado, my posted text:

Oh, yeah…I can plainly see that the good guys have won, asshat.

Here’s a clear example of my so-called “Jew Hatred” - Eliot Spitzer was safeguarding New York City from the predations of the “financial wizards” at Wall Street - when the Emporer’s Club scandal hit, the brokers had a circle jerk, because they were then able to process the $230 million dollar boondoggle, which was the beginning of the malfeasance committed by Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns, and the other three firms.

Tell, me…do you agree with the ways taxpayer funds have been squandered and wasted, so far?

Yes…I AM a patriot. Lay off the pharmaceuticals.

Oh, you stupid pieces of garbage - you stand exposed for your complete scumbaggery and for being morally bankrupt.

On September 11th, 2001, two commercial airliners impacted with World Trade Center Towers 1 & 2.

Let's post from 9-11 Review - Jets Impact The Twin Towers:

Jets Impact the Twin Towers

The opening salvo in the escalating series of horrors on 9/11/01 was a jet smashing into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 AM. The takeover of Flight 11 had occurred almost 30 minutes earlier, but it was the shocking impact with one of the famous Twin Towers that awakened the world to the unfolding attack. By 9:00 AM, television stations across the globe had gone live with the story of the disaster in Lower Manhattan. Thus many cameras were rolling when the South Tower was impacted by a second jet at 9:03 AM, producing brilliant fireballs.
Impacts and Fireballs

The jet that hit the North Tower flew in perpendicular to the tower's northeast face, and impacted around the center of the 95th floor, producing an impact gash that extended from the 92nd to the 98th floor. Most of the plane apparently lodged in the tower's core structure, the only piece of aircraft to emerge from the opposite side being a dense piece of landing gear. The burning jet fuel, atomized on impact, spilled out of the impact gash and through broken windows on the southeast side.

In contrast, the jet that hit the South Tower, 18 minutes later, veered to the right just before impact and hit the rightmost third of the tower's southwest wall, producing an impact gash that extended from the 78th to the 94th floor. The diagonal trajectory through the building allowed most of the plane to miss the tower's core structure, and much of its fuselage appeared to emerge from the east corner, while a great deal of the fuel escaped from the northeast and southwest walls. This produced huge fireballs that developed outside the building, in contrast with the greater containment of the fireballs in the North Tower impact.
Impact Damage

The jet impacts destroyed sections of perimeter wall columns on the faces of the towers they hit. Although the collisions left imprints that extended out to the wingtips of the jets, the ends of the wings destroyed only the aluminum cladding covering the perimeter columns, not the steel columns themselves. The South Tower's wall was damaged less than the North Tower's, since the columns at its impact zone were made of thicker steel.

North Tower's northeast perimeter wall from floors 93 through 98

South Tower's southwest perimeter wall from floors 78 through 82

According to FEMA's damage estimates, The North Tower impact destroyed from 31 to 36 of its perimeter columns, and the South Tower impact destroyed about 23 of its perimeter columns. Since each tower had 240 perimeter columns, the impacts destroyed only about 13 and 10 percent of the towers' perimeter columns, and only on a few floors.

The Jet Fuel

In the popular imagination, the jet fuel was the biggest factor in bringing down the towers. News reports emphasized that the transcontinental flights were fully loaded with fuel, while later government reports stated that the 767s were carrying about 10,000 of their 24,000-gallon capacity, and that most of the jet fuel likely burned off within five minutes. Thus, the jet fuel primarily served to ignite the post-crash fires rather than sustain them.

Okay...we've got that out of the way, yes? So...and I hope that this is clear...are you stating that the jet fuel that you purport was the weakening factor in regards to the steel not only ran down the remaining floors, but was also able to affect the floors ABOVE THE IMPACT?

How the hell did firefighters reach the floors they were able to before the collapses?

Understand this - you people are complete and utter morons, and I will now take every opportunity to point that out. I will spare no insult, and as I have proven your craven methods, now know that you idiots are deserving of no less.

This is going to be a great week.

Martial Law, the Financial Bailout, and War

Martial Law, the Financial Bailout, and War (If I've time, I'll create the hyperlinks; otherwise, please cut and paste the URLs printed below - thanks again to Travis Kelly!)

Paulson’s Financial Bailout

It is becoming clear that the bailout measures of late 2008 may have consequences at least as grave for an open society as the response to 9/11 in 2001. Many members of Congress felt coerced into voting against their inclinations, and the normal procedures for orderly consideration of a bill were dispensed with.

The excuse for bypassing normal legislative procedures was the existence of an emergency. But one of the most reprehensible features of the legislation, that it allowed Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to permit bailed-out institutions to use public money for exorbitant salaries and bonuses, was inserted by Paulson after the immediate crisis had passed.

According to Congressman Peter Welch (D-Vermont) the bailout bill originally called for a cap on executive salaries, but Paulson changed the requirement at the last minute. Welch and other members of Congress were enraged by “news that banks getting taxpayer-funded bailouts are still paying exorbitant salaries, bonuses, and other benefits.”1 In addition, as AP reported in October, “Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. questioned allowing banks that accept bailout bucks to continue paying dividends on their common stock. `There are far better uses of taxpayer dollars than continuing dividend payments to shareholders,’ he said.”2

Even more reprehensible is the fact that since the bailouts, Paulson and the Treasury Department have refused to provide details of the Troubled Assets Relief Program spending of hundreds of billions of dollars, while the New York Federal Reserve has refused to provide information about its own bail-out (using government-backed loans) that amounts to trillions. This lack of transparency has been challenged by Fox TV in a FOIA suit against the Treasury Department, and a suit by Bloomberg News against the Fed.3

The financial bailout legislation of September 2008 was only passed after members of both Congressional houses were warned that failure to act would threaten civil unrest and the imposition of martial law.

U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., and U.S. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., both said U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson brought up a worst-case scenario as he pushed for the Wall Street bailout in September. Paulson, former Goldman Sachs CEO, said that might even require a declaration of martial law, the two noted.4

Here are the original remarks by Senator Inhofe:

Speaking on Tulsa Oklahoma’s 1170 KFAQ, when asked who was behind threats of martial law and civil unrest if the bailout bill failed, Senator James Inhofe named Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson as the source. “Somebody in D.C. was feeding you guys quite a story prior to the bailout, a story that if we didn’t do this we were going to see something on the scale of the depression, there were people talking about martial law being instituted, civil unrest.who was feeding you guys this stuff?,” asked host Pat Campbell. “That’s Henry Paulson,” responded Inhofe, “We had a conference call early on, it was on a Friday I think – a week and half before the vote on Oct. 1. So it would have been the middle what was it – the 19th of September, we had a conference call. In this conference call – and I guess there’s no reason for me not to repeat what he said, but he said – he painted this picture you just described. He said, ‘This is serious. This is the most serious thing that we faced.’”5

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA 27th District) reported the same threat on the Congressional floor (Rep. Sherman later downplayed his remarks slightly on the Alex Jones show):

“The only way they can pass this bill is by creating a panic atmosphere. Many of us were told that the sky would fall. A few of us were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no. That’s what I call fear-mongering, unjustified, proven wrong.”6

So it is clear that threats of martial law were used to get this reprehensible bailout legislation passed. It also seems clear that Congress was told of a threat of martial law, not itself threatened. It is still entirely appropriate to link such talk to the Army’s rapid moves to redefine its role as one of controlling the American people, not just protecting them. In a constitutional polity based on balance of powers, we see the emergence of a radical new military power that is as yet completely unbalanced.

The Army’s New Role in 2001: Not Protecting American Society, but Controlling It

This new role for the Army is not wholly unprecedented. The U.S. military had been training troops and police in "civil disturbance planning" for the last three decades. The master plan, Department of Defense Civil Disturbance Plan 55-2, or "Operation Garden Plot," was developed in 1968 in response to the major protests and disturbances of the 1960s.

But on January 19, 2001, on the last day of the Clinton administration, the U.S. Army promulgated a new and permanent Continuity of Operations (COOP) Program. It encapsulated its difference from the preceding, externally-oriented Army Survival, Recovery, and Reconstitution System (ASRRS) as follows:

a. In 1985, the Chief of Staff of the Army established the Army Survival, Recovery, and Reconstitution System (ASRRS) to ensure the continuity of essential Army missions and functions.

ASRRS doctrine was focused primarily on a response to the worst case 1980's threat of a massive nuclear laydown on CONUS as a result of a confrontation with the Soviet Union.

b. The end of the Cold War and the breakup of the former Soviet Union significantly reduced the probability of a major nuclear attack on CONUS but the probability of other threats has increased. Army organizations must be prepared for any contingency with a potential for interruption of normal operations.

To emphasize that Army continuity of operations planning is now focused on the full all-hazards threat spectrum, the name "ASRRS" has been replaced by the more generic title “Continuity of Operations (COOP) Program.”7

This document embodied the secret Continuity of Operations (COG) planning conducted secretly by Rumsfeld, Cheney, and others through the 1980s and 1990s.8 This planning was initially for continuity measures in the event of a nuclear attack, but soon called for suspension of the Constitution, not just “after a nuclear war” but for any “national security emergency.” This was defined in Reagan’s Executive Order 12656 of November 18, 1988 as “any occurrence, including natural disaster, military attack, technological emergency, or other emergency, that seriously degrades or seriously threatens the national security of the United States.” The effect was to impose on domestic civil society the extreme measures once planned for a response to a nuclear attack from abroad.9

In like fashion ARR 500-3 Regulation clarified that it was a plan for “the execution of mission-essential functions without unacceptable interruption during a national security or domestic emergency.”

Donald Rumsfeld, who as a private citizen had helped author the COG planning, promptly signed and implemented the revised ARR 500-3. Eight months later, on 9/11, Cheney and Rumsfeld implemented COG, a significant event of which we still know next to nothing. What we do know is that plans began almost immediately – as foreseen by COG planning the 1980s -- to implement warrantless surveillance and detention of large numbers of civilians, and that in January 2002 the Pentagon submitted a proposal for deploying troops on American streets.10

Then in April 2002, Defense officials implemented a plan for domestic U.S. military operations by creating a new U.S. Northern Command (CINC-NORTHCOM) for the continental United States.11 In short, what were being implemented were the most prominent features of the COG planning which Oliver North had worked on in the 1980s.

Deep Events and Changes of Party in the White House

Like so many other significant steps since World War Two towards a military-industrial state, the Army’s Regulation 500-3 surfaced in the last days of a departing administration (in this case the very last day). It is worth noticing that, ever since the 1950s, dubious events--of the unpublic variety I have called deep events--have marked the last months before a change of party in the White House. These deep events have tended to a) constrain incoming presidents, if the incomer is a Democrat, or alternatively b) to pave the way for the incomer, if he is a Republican.

Consider, in the first category, the following (when a Republican was succeeded by a Democrat):

* In December 1960 the CIA secured approval for the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, and escalated events in Laos into a crisis for which the Joint Chiefs proposed sending 60,000 troops. These events profoundly affected President Kennedy’s posture towards Cuba and Indochina.

* In 1976 CIA Director George H.W. Bush installed an outside Team B intelligence unit to enlarge drastically estimates of the Soviet threat to the United States, eventually frustrating and reversing presidential candidate Jimmy Carter’s campaign pledge to cut the U.S. defense budget.12

Equally important were events in the second category (when a Democrat was succeeded by a Republican):

* In late 1968 Kissinger, while advising the Johnson administration, gave secret information to the Nixon campaign that helped Nixon to obstruct the peace agreement in Vietnam that was about to be negotiated at the peace talks then taking place in Paris. (According to Seymour Hersh,“The Nixon campaign, alerted by Kissinger to the impending success of the peace talks, was able to get a series of messages to the Thieu government” in Saigon. making it clear that a Nixon presidency would offer a better deal. This was a major factor in securing the defeat of Democratic candidate Hubert Humphrey.13 Kissinger was not the kind of person to have betrayed his president on his own personal initiative. At the time Nixon’s campaign manager, John Mitchell (one of the very few in on the secret), told Hersh that “I thought Henry [Kissinger] was doing it because Nelson [Rockefeller] wanted him to. Nelson asked Henry to help and he did.”14

* In 1980 the so-called October Surprise, with the help of people inside CIA, helped ensure that the Americans held hostage in Iran would not be returned before the inauguration of Reagan. This was a major factor in securing the defeat of incumbent Jimmy Carter.15 Once again, the influence of the Rockefellers can be discerned. A CIA officer later reported hearing Joseph V. Reed, an aide to David Rockefeller, comment in 1981 to William Casey, the newly installed CIA Director, about their joint success in disrupting Carter’s plans to bring home the hostages.16

Both the financial bailout, extorted from Congress and the escalated preparations for martial law can be seen as transitional events of the first category. Whatever the explanations for their timing, they will constrain Obama’s freedom to make his own policies. I fear moreover they may have the consequence of easing this country into unforeseen escalations of the Afghan war.

The Intensive Quiet Preparations for Martial Law

Let us deal first with the preparations for martial law. On September 30, 2008, the Army Times announced the redeployment of an active Brigade Army Team from Iraq to America, in a new mission that “may become a permanent part of the active Army”:

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks. . . . After 1st BCT finishes its dwell-time mission, expectations are that another, as yet unnamed, active-duty brigade will take over and that the mission will be a permanent one. . . .They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control.17

This announcement followed by two weeks the talk of civil unrest and martial law that was used to panic the Congress into passing Paulson’s bailout legislation. Not only that, the two unprecedented events mirror each other: the bailout debate anticipated civil unrest and martial law, while the announced positioning of an active Brigade Combat Team on U.S. soil anticipated civil unrest (such as might result from the bailout legislation).

Then on December 17, 2008, US Northern Command chief General Renuart announced that “the US military plans to mobilize thousands of troops to protect Washington against potential terrorist attack during the inauguration of president-elect Barack Obama.”18

The US Army War College has also raised the possibility of the U.S. Army being used to control civil unrest, according to the Phoenix Business Journal:

A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest, such as protests against businesses and government or runs on beleaguered banks.

“Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security,” said the War College report.

The study says economic collapse, terrorism and loss of legal order are among possible domestic shocks that might require military action within the U.S.19

It is clear that there has been a sustained move in the direction of martial law preparations, a trend that has been as continuous as it has been unheralded. Senator Leahy was thus right to draw our attention to it back on September 29, 2006, in his objections to the final form of the Fiscal Year 2007 National Defense Authorization Act, which gave the president increased power to call up the National Guard for law enforcement:

It . . . should concern us all that the Conference agreement includes language that subverts solid, longstanding posse comitatus statutes that limit the military’s involvement in law enforcement, thereby making it easier for the President to declare martial law. There is good reason for the constructive friction in existing law when it comes to martial law declarations.20

This quiet agglomeration of military power has not “just growed,” like Topsy, through inadvertence. It shows sustained intention, even if no one has made a public case for it.

How the Bush Administration Protected Predatory Lending and Let the Financial Crisis Grow

Let us now consider the financial crisis and the panic bailout. No one should think that the crisis was unforeseen. Back in February Eliot Spitzer, in one of his last acts as governor of New York, warned about the impending crisis created by predatory lending, and reveled that the Bush Administration was blocking state efforts to deal with it. His extraordinary warning, in the Washington Post, is worth quoting at some length:

Several years ago, state attorneys general and others involved in consumer protection began to notice a marked increase in a range of predatory lending practices by mortgage lenders.

Even though predatory lending was becoming a national problem, the Bush administration looked the other way and did nothing to protect American homeowners. In fact, the government chose instead to align itself with the banks that were victimizing consumers. . . . Several state legislatures, including New York's, enacted laws aimed at curbing such practices. . . .Not only did the Bush administration do nothing to protect consumers, it embarked on an aggressive and unprecedented campaign to prevent states from protecting their residents from the very problems to which the federal government was turning a blind eye.
Let me explain: The administration accomplished this feat through an obscure federal [Treasury] agency called the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The OCC has been in existence since the Civil War. Its mission is to ensure the fiscal soundness of national banks. For 140 years, the OCC examined the books of national banks to make sure they were balanced, an important but uncontroversial function. But a few years ago, for the first time in its history, the OCC was used as a tool against consumers.

In 2003, during the height of the predatory lending crisis, the OCC invoked a clause from the 1863 National Bank Act to issue formal opinions preempting all state predatory lending laws, thereby rendering them inoperative. The OCC also promulgated new rules that prevented states from enforcing any of their own consumer protection laws against national banks. The federal government's actions were so egregious and so unprecedented that all 50 state attorneys general, and all 50 state banking superintendents, actively fought the new rules.

But the unanimous opposition of the 50 states did not deter, or even slow, the Bush administration in its goal of protecting the banks. In fact, when my office opened an investigation of possible discrimination in mortgage lending by a number of banks, the OCC filed a federal lawsuit to stop the investigation.21

Eliot Spitzer submitted his Op Ed to the Washington Post on February 13. If it had an impact, it was not the one Spitzer had hoped for. On March 10 the New York Times broke the story of Spitzer’s encounter with a prostitute. According to a later Times story, “on Feb. 13 [the day Spitzer’s Op Ed went up on the Washington Post website] federal agents staked out his hotel in Washington.”[22]

It is remarkable that the Mainstream Media found Spitzer’s private life to be big news, but not his charges that Paulson’s Treasury was prolonging the financial crisis, or the relation of these charges to Spitzer’s exposure. As a weblog commented,

The US news media failed to draw the obvious connection between the bizarre federal law enforcement investigation and leak campaign about the private life of New York Governor Spitzer and Spitzer's all out attack on the Bush administration for its collusion with predatory lenders.

While the international credit system grinds to a halt because of a superabundance of bad mortgage loans made in the US, the news media failed to cover the details of Spitzer's public charges against the White House.

Yet when salacious details were leaked about alleged details of Spitzer's private life, they took that information and made it the front page news for days.[23]

After Spitzer’s Op Ed was published, according to Greg Palast, the Federal Reserve, “for the first time in its history, loaned a selected coterie of banks one-fifth of a trillion dollars to guarantee these banks’ mortgage-backed junk bonds. The deluge of public loot was an eye-popping windfall to the very banking predators who have brought two million families to the brink of foreclosure.”[24]

What are we to make of Spitzer’s charge that the Bush administration interfered to preempt state laws against predatory lending, and of the fact that the mainstream media did not report that? A petty motive for the OCC’s behavior in 2003 might have been to allow the housing bubble to continue through 2003 and 2004, thus facilitating Bush’s re-election. But the persistence of Treasury obstruction thereafter, despite the unanimous opposition of all fifty states, and the continuing silence of the media about this disagreement, suggest that some broader policy intention may have been at stake.

One is struck by the similarities with the Savings and Loan scandal which was allowed to continue through the Reagan 1980s, long after it became apparent that deliberate bankruptcy was being used by unscrupulous profiteers to amass illegal fortunes at what was ultimately public expense.[25]

In the same way, the long drawn-out housing bubble of the current Bush decade, and particularly the derivative bubble that was floated upon it, allowed the Bush administration to help offset the trillion-dollar-plus cost of its Iraq misadventure,[26] by creating spurious securities that sold for hundreds of billions, not just in the United States, but through the rest of the world.

In the long run, this was not a sustainable source of wealth for America’s financial class, which is now suffering like everyone else from the consequent recession. But in the short run, the financial crisis and bailout made it possible for Bush to wage a costly war without experiencing the kind of debilitating inflation that was brought on by America’s Vietnam War.

The trillion dollar meltdown,[27] in other words, can be rationalized as having helped finance the Iraq War. When we turn to the martial law preparations, however, they are being made in anticipation of civil unrest in the future. Why such intense preparation for this?

The obvious answer of course is memory of the rioting that occurred in San Francisco and elsewhere during the great depression of the 1930s. Indeed that thought may be uppermost among those who recently arranged for the redeployment of a Brigade Combat Team from Iraq to America. But the planning for martial law in America dates back almost three decades, from the days when Reagan appointed Rumsfeld, Cheney and others to plan secretly for what was misleadingly called Continuity [i.e., Change] of Government. Concern about the 2008 recession cannot have been on their minds then, or on those who introduced the Army’s “Continuity of Operations (COOP) Program” on January 19, 2001. Instead the “full all-hazards threat spectrum” envisaged in that document was clearly ancillary to the doctrine of “full-spectrum dominance” that had been articulated in the Joint Chiefs of Staff blueprint, Joint Vision 2020, endorsed eight months earlier on May 30, 2000.[28]

The interest of Cheney and Rumsfeld in COG planning, including planning for martial law, also envisaged full spectrum dominance. This is made clear by their simultaneous engagement in the 1990s in the public Project for the New American Century (PNAC). PNAC’s goals were stated very explicitly in their document Rebuilding America’s Defenses: to increase defense spending so as to establish America’s military presence throughout the world as an unchallengeable power. This would entail permanent U.S. forces in central as well as east Asia, even after the disappearance [jam1] of Saddam Hussein.[29]

In short PNAC’s program was a blueprint for permanent overseas American empire, a project they recognized would not be easily accepted by an American democracy. Their call frankly acknowledged that it would be difficult to gain support for their projected increase in defense spending to “a minimum level of 3.5 to 3.8 percent of gross domestic product, adding $15 billion to $20 billion to total defense spending annually.” “The process of transformation,” the document admitted, “is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event—like a new Pearl Harbor.”[30]

There is of course every reason to hope that the disastrous era of Rumsfeld and Cheney is about to end, with the election of Barack Obama. Obama has made it clear that he will pursue a foreign policy dedicated to diplomacy and multilateralism. In this spirit he has declared his willingness to talk to Iran without preconditions.

But Obama’s stated reason for disengagement from Iraq – “The scale of our deployments in Iraq continues to set back our ability to finish the fight in Afghanistan”[31] – is very ominous. Few serious students of the Afghan scene believe that America can “finish the fight in Afghanistan,” any more successfully than could the Russians or British before them. The U.S. position there is visibly deteriorating, while the U.S. strategy of cross-border attacks is having the effect of destabilizing Pakistan as well. The U.S.-backed Karzai regime has so little control over the countryside that Kabul itself is now coming under rocket attack. Experts on the scene agree that any effort to “finish” will be a long-term proposition requiring at a minimum a vastly escalated commitment of U.S. troops.[32]

One cannot predict the future, but one can examine the past. For thirty years I have been writing about the persistence in America of a war mentality that, time after time, trumps reasonable policies of negotiation, and leads us further into armed conflict. This dominant mindset is not restricted to any single agency or cabal, but is rather the likely outcome of on-going tensions between hawks and doves in the internal politics of Washington.

If a container of rocks and gravel is shaken vigorously, the probability is that the gravel will gravitate towards the bottom, leaving the largest rocks at the top. There is an analogous probability that, in an on-going debate over engaging or withdrawing from a difficult military contest, the forces for engagement will come out on top, regardless of circumstances. Available military power tends to be used, and one of the most remarkable features of history since 1945 is that this tendency has not so far repeated itself with atomic weapons.

Let me explain this metaphor in more concrete detail. Progressive societies (in this era usually democracies) tend to expand their presence beyond their geographic boundaries. This expanded presence calls for new institutions, usually (like the CIA) free from democratic accountability. This accretion of unaccountable power, in what I have elsewhere called the deep state, disrupts the public state’s system of checks and balances which is the underpinning of sane, deliberative policy.

We might expect of progressive democracies that they would evolve towards more and more rational foreign policies. But because of the dialectic just described, what we see is the exact opposite – evolution towards foolish and sometimes disastrous engagements. When Britain became more democratic in the late 19th Century, it also initiated the Boer War, a war very suited to the private imperial needs of Cecil Rhodes, but irrelevant if not deleterious to the interests of the British people.[33] Hitler’s dreams of a Third Reich, entailing a doomed repeat of Napoleon’s venture into the heart of Russia, suited the needs of the German industrialists who had financed the Nazis; but from the outset sane heads of the German military staff could foresee the coming disaster.

For over a half century now, beginning with Vietnam, unaccountable forces have been maneuvering America into unsustainable adventures on the Asian mainland. We now know that Kennedy did not intend ever to commit U.S. combat troops to Vietnam.[34] But the fatal planning to expand the Vietnam War north of the 17th parallel was authorized in the last week of his aborted presidency, probably without his being aware.[35] When elected, Jimmy Carter was determined to reduce the size and frequency of CIA covert operations.[36] Yet his national security advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, initiated maneuvers in Afghanistan that led to the largest CIA covert operation (and in my view, one of the most deleterious) of all time.[37]

Our archival historians have not yet fully understood either paradox, or the forces behind them. And as the philosopher George Santayana famously observed, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."[38]

The Future: Military Escalation Abroad and at Home?

Like both Kennedy and Carter, Barack Obama is a complex mix of hopeful and depressing qualities. Among the latter are his unqualified desire to “finish” (i.e., “win”) the war in Afghanistan, and his support, along with his party’s, for the final version of the Paulson bailout. In my view they go together.

Like the government negotiated resolution of the savings-and-loan-scandal of the 1980s, the financial bailout undisguisedly taxed the public wealth of the republic to protect and even enrich those who for some time had been undeservedly enriching themselves. Old-line leftists might see nothing unusual about this: it conforms to their analysis of how the capitalist state has always worked.

But it is only characteristic of the American state since the Reagan revolution of the 1980s. Before that time governmental policies were more likely to be directed towards helping the poor; afterwards the ideology of free-market literalism, even under Clinton, was invoked in numerous ways for the enriching of the rich.

The result of these government policies has been summarized by Prof. Edward Wolff:

We have had a fairly sharp increase in wealth inequality dating back to 1975 or 1976. Prior to that, there was a protracted period when wealth inequality fell in this country, going back almost to 1929. So you have this fairly continuous downward trend from 1929, which of course was the peak of the stock market before it crashed, until just about the mid-1970s. Since then, things have really turned around, and the level of wealth inequality today is almost double what it was in the mid-1970s..

Up until the early 1970s, the U.S. actually had lower wealth inequality than Great Britain, and even than a country like Sweden. But things have really turned around over the last 25 or 30 years. In fact, a lot of countries have experienced lessening wealth inequality over time. The U.S. is atypical in that inequality has risen so sharply over the last 25 or 30 years.[39]

Past excesses of American wealth, as in the Gilded Age and the 1920s, have been followed by political reforms, such as the income tax, to reduce wealth and income disparity. But as Kevin Phillips has warned, this type of reform must happen again soon, or it may not happen at all:

As the twenty-first century gets underway, the imbalance of wealth and democracy in the United States is unsustainable. . . . Either democracy must be renewed, with politics brought back to life, or wealth is likely to cement a new and less democratic regime—plutocracy by some other name.[40]

Judged by this criterion, the Paulson bailout as passed was not just an opportunity missed; it was a radical leap in the wrong direction. It is not reassuring that the bailout was passed with the support of Obama and the Democratic Party. This is rather a sign that plutocracy will not be seriously challenged by either party in their present state.

Warren Buffett may have been correct in saying that the bailout was necessary. But it is not hard to think of reforms that should have accompanied it:

1) there should have been transparency, not secrecy

2) public funds should not have been made available for bonuses or dividends (The richest 10 percent of Americans own 85 percent of all stock).[41]

And as a bailout for the automobile industry is debated, two more reforms seem self-evident:

3) any reduction in income should not affect workers alone, but all levels of employees equally

4) as has often been suggested, a limit should be established by law to the maximum ratio of the highest remuneration to the lowest in any industry – perhaps a ratio of twenty to one.

I am not making these obvious suggestions with any expectation that they will be passed or seriously debated. The plutocratic corruption of both our parties makes such a prospect almost unthinkable.

What I do want to contemplate is the serious prospect of war. America escaped from the depression of the 1890s with the Spanish-American War.[42] It only escaped the Great Depression of the 1930s with the Second World War. There was even a recession in the late 1940s from which America only escaped with the Korean War. As we face the risk of major depression again, I believe we inevitably face the danger of major war again.

In the meantime, some aspects of the financial meltdown, although they arose for many reasons and were not the result of some conspiratorial cabal, may be prolonged because of their utility to the war-minded. Consider that, from the perspective of maintaining America’s imperial thrust into Afghanistan (and even Pakistan), the financial crisis has had some desired consequences:

1) The dollar’s value against other international currencies, notably the euro, has improved, thus improving America’s balance of payments and also offsetting the threat to the dollar’s important role as the primary unit of international trade.

2) Thanks to the determined international marketing of overvalued derivatives based on predatory lending, the resulting financial crisis has been internationalized, with economies elsewhere suffering even greater shocks than the United States. This has relatively improved America’s capacity to finance a major war effort overseas (which has always had a major impact on the U.S. balance of payments).

3) The price of oil has plummeted from $147 a barrel last July to under $40, thus weakening the economies of Russia, China, and especially Saudi Arabia, the country whose international foundations have been supporting Al Qaeda.

The Afghan situation is grim, but it is not hopeless. Two skilled observers, Barnett R. Rubin and Ahmed Rashid, have proposed a political solution for the entire region that would promise greater security for the entire area than Obama’s ill-considered proposal to send 20,000 more U.S. troops.[43] In Rashid’s words,

President-elect Obama and Western leaders have to adopt a comprehensive approach that sees the region [with Afghanistan's neighbors, including Pakistan, India, Russia, China, Iran, and the former Soviet states] as a unit with interlocking development issues to be resolved such as poverty, illiteracy and weak governance. There has to be a more comprehensive but more subtle approach to democratising the region and forcing powerful but negative stakeholders in local power structures - such as the drug mafias - either to change their thinking or be eliminated.[44]

That observers with such recognized status are offering a sensible political solution does not provide me with much optimism. For three decades now Barnett Rubin has been offering sound advice on Iran and Afghanistan to Washington, only to be ignored by those lobbying for covert operations and military solutions. This dialectic is reminiscent of the Vietnam War, where for over a decade reasonable proposals to demilitarize the conflict were similarly ignored.

I repeat that the future is unpredictable. But I fear that Obama’s proposal to send 20,000 additional troops will carry the day, with its predictable consequences of a wider war in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.[45] With this I also fear an increased use of the U.S. Army to control protests by the American people.

I earnestly hope that my fears are misplaced. Time will tell.

But this estimate was dismissed as “baloney” by the Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld. His deputy, Paul Wolfowitz, suggested that postwar reconstruction could pay for itself through increased oil revenues. Mitch Daniels, the Office of Management and Budget director, and Secretary Rumsfeld estimated the costs in the range of $50 to $60 billion, a portion of which they believed would be financed by other countries. (Adjusting for inflation, in 2007 dollars, they were projecting costs of between $57 and $69 billion.) The tone of the entire administration was cavalier, as if the sums involved were minimal.”

Even those Afghans not keen on seeing the Taliban back in power are appalled by the level of brutality inflicted on civilians.”
